There’s something quite magical and beautiful about this time of year. The sounds, the smells, the long, invigorating walks through fallen leaves and, of course, the colour.

It’s the perfect time to explore the outdoors. Walks on Anglesey are a treat of autumnal colour and the sea is also at its warmest, and if you’re lucky, the Indian summer sunshine will keep you warm during daylight hours.

In our latest blog, we explore the wonders of autumnal nature on Anglesey and have some activity ideas to keep your little ones happy and busy during the October half-term.

Anglesey’s Autumn Wildlife

With the arrival of autumn comes a very special time for one of the local’s favourite animals – the seal! Seal pups are born in autumn, and they will be in various locations across the island. Be sure to keep an eye out for some if you decide to head out on an autumnal coastal walk. We’d love to see some pictures if you manage to snap any!

You’ll also be able to see both Dolphins and Harbour Porpoises if you head on over to the North Coast of the island.

Hedgehogs are another animal who loves to venture out during this spectacular time of year. They’re most often found in the woodlands and avoid very wet areas. If you head to the woods, also be on alert for red squirrels who love frolicking in the crisp leaves during this season. Tip: to catch some red squirrels in action, try the National Trust gardens at Plas Newydd.

In terms of birds, you can expect to find the likes of Great White Egrets, Little Stints, Curlew Sandpipers, Yellow-Browed Warblers, Osprey and Wryneck – which have all been recently spotted on the island. Get out those binoculars and go exploring to see what you can uncover.

Anglesey Autumn Nature

When the leaves turn from a vivid green to vibrant orange, yellows and browns, nature on Anglesey really is spectacular. Hawthorn berries are about, and these make great foods for birds if you want to make sure they get enough to eat now that the weather’s cooling!

Also remember to keep an eye out for the Anglesey plants that we’re famous for including Black Bog-Rush, the Common Reed, Great Fen Sedge and Fen Pondweed.

We love our nature on the island, and we just know you’ll love it too if you visit during the autumn months.

Anglesey Autumn Kids’ Activities

Autumn is a great time to have some fun with the children, and there are some lovely autumn themed activities that you can partake in whilst staying in your lodge at Silver Bay.

Below we’ve gathered a few ideas to leave you feeling inspired – and they’re all easy to do.

Autumn Baking

Autumn baking ideas silver bay

With all the lovely autumnal foods feeding through into our diets, it could be time to partake in some autumn baking! Favourites at this time of year include sticky toffee pudding, gingerbread biscuits and also pumpkin pies and cupcakes. Why not see what recipes you can find online on the BBC Good Food website? They have a great range available, so we’re certain you’ll find something tasty for you and your little ones to create together.

Autumn Walks

There are plenty of wonderful walking areas all around Silver Bay that make for the most wonderful autumnal strolls. If you head out around the site you’ll be able to see some wonderful sights such as the photographs below taken by one of our lovely, talented residents!

Autumn view on Anglesey

Beautiful flowers and sunset on Anglesey

These photos are only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to natural autumn beauty on and around Silver Bay – so we recommend you go and explore yourself. And don’t forget to take your camera!

Autumn Playdough

Did you know that it’s really easy to make your own playdough at home? And now that it’s autumn, why not fill your playdough collection with autumnal colours of orange, golden yellow and soothing browns?

Take a look at this recipe right here on AllRecipes.co.uk. All you need is 250g of flour, 50g of salt, 140ml of water and 1 – 2 tablespoons of cooking oil. Then you can add whatever colours you fancy into the mix for an autumnal playdough extravaganza!

Create Halloween Decorations

Halloween becomes more popular with each passing year – so why not go all out for 2016 and decorate your luxury lodge with some spooktacular decorations?

Whether you encourage your little ones to create Halloween themed pictures or create bunting out of orange card (cut into pumpkin shapes, of course!) and string – it’s incredibly easy to decorate for Halloween.

And don’t forget to pick up some pumpkins for carving. If you worry about your little one’s fingers when it comes to carving, why not get them to draw onto the pumpkins with markers and then cut them out yourself? There’s also a fantastic Silver Bay pumpkin competition running at the Halloween party, so be sure to bring your best carving efforts along for a chance to win.

We love our holiday village, there’s no denying that – and we’re firm believers that anyone who visits our site will fall in love with it too.

When it comes to buying a holiday home at Silver Bay, there are a few key steps to securing your amazing luxury lodge for many years to come!

If you’re intrigued to find out more about the process of buying a Silver Bay holiday lodge, then be sure to read on and see all that there is to discover.

Step 1: Research, Research, Research!

The first thing to do before buying at Silver Bay is to do your research! We have an amazing brochure available for download, and we also have an extensive gallery online so that you can see exactly what life is like at our amazing holiday park.

We’re easy to reach by car, making us perfect for weekend getaways  the whole family. It’s also a good idea to do some research around the local area. You’ll soon see what amazing restaurants, attractions and much more we have on offer here on Anglesey!

Step 2: Visit Silver Bay

The most important thing to do before buying a holiday home is to head on down to Silver Bay to see what all the fuss is about!

We’re certain you’ll love every second you spend here with our amazing spa, private beach, boat park and more. It’s also the perfect opportunity to go and explore our luxury lodges in more detail when you’re down here.

We use only the highest of finishes at Silver Bay and there’s lots of room for the whole family. We challenge you not to fall in love with Silver Bay!

Step 3: Consider Your Finances

The next thing to do is to find a property in your budget. We have caravans for sale as well as lodges, from brand new properties to second-hand ones available – so it’s all about finding the perfect property for you within your price range.

Once you’ve settled on one that suits both your lifestyle and your wallet, it’s time to take the next step towards securing your beautiful luxury lodge.

Remember, as well the price of the lodge there will also be site fees. These are paid annually on March 31st. We can also arrange a monthly direct debit if required.

Step 4: Decide How To Buy

There are a few things to consider when it comes to buying a holiday home. For example, if you purchase a caravan you will have a lease of 15 years and a lodge will come with one for 50 years.

As well as this, there are a few options you have as to how to buy your holiday property. If you decide, you can purchase the property outright with cash. But this isn’t your only option.

You can also use a private funding source to purchase a property. This includes a re-mortgage or equity loan.

The final payment option for a lodge or caravan is our tailor-made holiday home finance package. This requires a 20% deposit and a maximum term of 15 years.

Step 5: Find Answers To Any Questions You May Have

You need to make sure you’re completely clued up before purchasing a holiday home, and there may be some more questions you have.

It’s easy to find out everything you want to know, because all you have to do is call us on reception and we’ll be happy to answer any questions or queries you might have.

As well as this, we’ve listed some of the most common below to help you along on your Silver Bay purchase journey!

Can I sell before the license expires?

You can, and we’ll help you do it! Silver Bay will act as your agent, and because of this, we’ll also be entitled to a commission fee.

Can I live in my holiday home?

We’re afraid not. No one is allowed to live at the properties because our licences are for recreation use only.

Can I sublet my holiday property?

You won’t be able to sublet your Silver Bay holiday property, but you can share with family and friends as long as you arrange it.

Can I bring my pets?

Pets are allowed on site, but please be aware that responsible ownership rules apply.

Every year families around the world enjoy going on holiday. Whether you jet out on a plane or head to your car to explore the country, getting away offers you the chance to relax and recuperate.

But have you ever considered purchasing your own holiday property?

Holiday homes come with a wealth of benefits and when they’re located in the UK, there are even more reasons to purchase a second property.

If you’ve been having an internal to buy or not to buy debate for a few years now, then this is the blog that could settle it once and for all.

Keep reading if you want to see all the reasons why you should consider buying a holiday home in the near future.

1. It’s your own slice of paradise

One of the best things about owning a holiday home is that you get to own your very own slice of luxury.

Because you own it, you can be sure that you’re going to have a great break each and every time you visit, and you can ensure you have everything you need stocked up in your cupboards, such as medicines and drinks that will keep: ie. tea bags!

This will really help you feel like you’re holidaying in a home away from home and ultimately make you feel much more relaxed.

2. You could save money

If you own a UK holiday home then you don’t need to worry about booking flights and accommodation whenever you go away.

Owning your own property gives you the flexibility to be spontaneous and head out to your holiday home if the weather looks good or you simply have a few days off!

3. The facilities

If you buy a holiday home on a park, you can expect to benefit from certain facilities. Good sites will have a private beach, a spa and leisure developmentrestaurants and bars for you to enjoy.

Some also have boat parks for those who want to park their boat away from home!

4.  You can sell the property on

If you purchase a holiday home and change your mind then you also have the freedom to sell it on once you’re done with.

This means you’re not tied to a property forever and have the chance to move on if you wish.

Properties at Silver Bay also come with a longer lease than you may expect from a holiday lodge – so why not explore our options a little further?

5. It’s easy to make fantastic memories

If you really want to do something extra special with your loved ones, then a holiday home provides the chance for you all to do something amazing and fun time and time again.

All you need to do is hop in your car and head over to your home whenever you fancy it. It really is a delightful treat after a stressful week in work!

We’re certain your family will love it too!

6. You get to make it exactly how you like it

Because you own the holiday home, you have the freedom to do whatever you like to it.

Whether you have a certain type of pillow you adore or fancy stocking up on your favourite DVDs, keeping them close to hand will always ensure you have your favorite things close by, as well as something fun to do, come rain or shine.

7. You know what you’re getting

Sometimes when you book holidays abroad you choose a gorgeous hotel and can’t wait. Yet when you arrive it might not be what you expect.

This can lead to disappointment, but if you have access to your own property like the luxury holiday homes here at Silver Bay then you’ll be happy every single time you visit!

You get to come and visit our park before you buy to really experience how amazing it is. We’re certain you’ll love it and have many happy holidays here!

8. They’re great for families

If you buy a holiday property on a holiday village/park, then you can be sure there will be some great entertainment for your children.

The best holiday parks always host some form of activities during school holidays.

For example, here at Silver Bay, kids can get involved with everything from arts and crafts to junk modelling.

It’s a fun time to be had by all and it will make sure they have a fantastic holiday each time they visit.

9. The sense of community

silver-bay-holiday-village-anglesey-the-deck house-family-at-party

When you purchase a holiday home you also get to be part of a fantastic community.

You get to know your neighbours and other lodge owners and then meet up when you next go away for drinks and get-togethers.

It also gives your children the chance to make friends with others on the holiday park, buying you vital time to relax in peace and quiet whilst they have a great time playing with their new friends!

Discover with our blog the best things to see and do, and the reasons why Anglesey is one of the best UK destinations around.

1. The coastline

Anglesey truly has some amazing, unspoiled coastline – and it’s one of our main attractions.

Amazing to walk, beach comb, and even swim in if the weather is right, Anglesey is a breath fresh, salty, sea air! Make the beach one of the focal points of your visit to the area and prepare for sandy toes and the taste of a salty, sea breeze.

One of the best beaches in the area is, of course, Silver Bay Beach – and we’ve got the award to prove it. We recently won the prestigious Green Coast Award that you can read more about here. We’re incredibly proud of this achievement, and we are glad our beach is a credit to the Anglesey shoreline overall.

2. The food

oysterys, anglesey, food, silver bay holiday village

Anglesey is also home to some amazing restaurants, and we can’t recommend a visit enough to the ones that use local produce in their dishes. Of course, the onsite restaurant at Silver Bay features some amazing dishes that uses the finest of locally sourced ingredients.

But other favourites in the area include Dylans, The Harbour Front Bistro and also The Marram Grass Cafe.

If you’d like to discover more about these amazing eateries, be sure to take a look at the first and second part of our Anglesey’s best restaurants guides. We cover some of the finest in the area so you’ll have plenty of choice!

Halloween and the October half term are both fast approaching, and we think this is one of the best seasons to spend some quality time with all the family in your luxury holiday home on Anglesey.

Here at Silver Bay Holiday Village, we’re ready for the spooky and mischievous Halloween season, and we’ve come up with a few ideas to make Halloween 2015 unforgettable for you and your family.

Take your Halloween celebrations above and beyond this year and check out our recommendations for a spooktastic stay at Silver Bay.

Dress Up

One of the best parts of Halloween is scaring each other – and nothing brings a family closer together than dressing up as spooky ghouls!

You can bring your own outfits with you, or if you’re looking for inspiration we’re offering a ‘Get Glam’ (or should we call it ‘Grim’!) session on the 31st of October at 6pm. This will include Halloween dress-up and ghoulish face paints to transform your little angels into little terrors for the infamous Silver Bay Halloween disco!

Carve Pumpkins

Pumpkins were originally carved on All Hallows Eve in order to keep sinister spirits away, and it’s still a tradition practiced worldwide today. So why not get all the family involved in this creative and fun Halloween pastime?

pumpkin carving silver bay holiday village anglesey

Children love planning frightful pumpkin designs and this is a great family activity in itself! You might even want to grab the popcorn and beanbags and watch some spooky family horror films for inspiration. Once the design decisions have been made, your little Frankenstein can carve their monster creation under your guidance.

If you’re worried about the first aid kit coming out, permanent markers work just as well to draw the design directly onto the pumpkin.

Once ready, be sure to place them outside your holiday lodge complete with some atmospheric lighting to finish. Your pumpkin will light up the neighbourhood, and you might just spark a bit of pumpkin designing competition amongst the Silver Bay community!

Be sure to bring your family creation along to Silver Bay’s annual Halloween Pumpkin Carving Competition in the Hay House Bistro and let it go to the vote!

We’re hosting our annual Silver Bay Halloween party this year, and there’ll be even more face painting, fun and games than ever before!

Our Hay House Bistro will be serving a tasty, hot buffet at 7pm for everyone to enjoy, and then at 8pm we will have the moment that everyone has been waiting for – the judging of the pumpkin carving competition!

If you have a scary pumpkin, be sure to bring it along. We’re going to display them along the bar so that everyone can see the hard work and talent our Silver Bayer’s have put in!

The party lasts from 6:30pm until midnight, so be sure to book and call reception on 01407 860 111 to reserve a space for your family.

Spooky Picnic

Silver Bay’s private beach is stunning, we’re sure you’ll agree, but it doesn’t just have to be appreciated in the hot, summer months.

It’s also the perfect place to visit during the autumn season too, and you can really set the scary scene by bringing some of your Halloween decorations with you and having a spooky Halloween picnic!

Take it to the next level by indulging in some scary foods such as ghost bananas or pumpkin oranges, and then bring a torch and tell some exciting ghost stories! It really will be a Halloween to remember on the shores of Silver Bay beach.

Halloween Baking

When you’re back in your luxury lodge, why not do a little bit of baking? One of our favourite ideas that’s simple to do is Halloween eyeball cake pops  – and they look especially effective if you put them on forks instead of lollipop sticks!

If you want to create something that doesn’t require baking, then rice crispy cakes covered in spooky Halloween gummies are also a great idea, and you can also create little Oreo Halloween spiders with nothing more than some biscuits and strawberry laces.

Let your little ones show of their hard work to your luxury lodge neighbours. Everyone’s sure to enjoy the tasty treats you cook up in your kitchen, so put your chef hats and aprons on and get creating.

Create spooky decorations

Halloween is the perfect season to really encourage everyone to flex their creative fingers, and what better way to do this than by making some spooky decorations?

Whether you decide to colour in ghosts and ghouls, or perhaps fancy making some paper chains covered in orange and black glitter, there’s a range of things you can do to get everyone excited for All Hallow’s Eve and make sure your lodge look the part for this spooky evening, too.

Halloween Treasure Hunt

This season is all about munching on tasty treats – so why not make the kids work for it and hide them around your lodge/house or outdoors?

You can leave clues or just set them out searching, it’s entirely up to you. They’ll have a great time, and it might provide a bit of peace and quiet for a while if you’re after some down time too.

Paper Mache Halloween Pinatas

You can always head out and purchase a pinata for some Halloween excitement, but if you want to get everyone involved then creating your own paper mache pinatas can make for a very fun Halloween activity indeed.

Once they’re dry, everyone can get stuck in and paint them with their favourite spooky patterns.

The children are sure to love a range of sweets raining down on them from above, so go all out this Halloween and create some pinatas to remember!

Halloween at Silver Bay

We’re always excited by Halloween, and this year more than ever we’re ready for a fantastic time!

Why not make this Halloween the best one you’ve had yet and have some spooktacular fun at Silver Bay?

Call us on 01407 860 111 to find out more about our brilliant holiday homes by the sea.

Though we’re sad to see the end of summer and the wonderful weather it brings to Anglesey, we have certainly made the most of the holiday season here at Silver Bay!

We thoroughly enjoyed the company of all of our holiday homeowners, along with friends and family attending our various events throughout the summer period. We hope you all enjoyed your time here as much as we did, so here are some of the highlights we couldn’t resist sharing with you.

There are clearly quite a few sport fanatics among our ranks, judging from the brilliant turnout at our session of rounders on the beach. Everybody got involved, some fantastic rounders were scored, and thankfully the weather stayed clear and sunny all evening long.

Ah, the weather. Residents definitely got into the summer spirit by taking advantage of sunshine and sea whenever possible. Most sunny afternoons you could meander down to Silver Bay’s beach and see a good few of the children having a fabulous time in the ocean, and we even had a few occasions where everyone gathered on the beach with their coal BBQs.

There was some lovely food going round, the kids got to play out and parents had a chance for a tipple or two. Pimms, anyone?

Finally, towards the end of the summer, we held a tennis tournament for Silver Bay residents and also our team members. The kids had great fun battling each other in their morning tournament, with the parents getting their trainers on to enter the afternoon adults tournament and an evening presentation in the Bistro to wrap things up.

Though summer is coming to an end, we’re certain you have all managed to create some amazing memories with your family, and we hope Silver Bay has provided the perfect setting for your summer activities. We’re already looking forward to the antics of the next seasonal holidays, Halloween and Bonfire night. Christmas suddenly doesn’t seem too far away!

Make sure you keep up to date with our events here at Silver Bay with our blog, or keep in touch on Twitter and Facebook so you don’t miss out!
