We’re sure you’ve had time to get back into the swing of things after the summer holidays so we thought it was time to round up all our fantastic events from this summer and what a summer it’s been!

Events at The Deck House

We kicked off the summer holidays in style with our owner’s exclusive summer party. For the little ones we had some amazing entertainment, including a return visit from Mr Trix the clown and Ella from Frozen, and finished the night with dancing and music from the fabulous Treasure.

The fun didn’t stop there! We also had a disco at the beginning of August and a casino and disco towards the end of August. The casino was a great success and it looked like you all had a great time, we hope you kept your photobooth pictures courtesy of Event Lounge.

Busy Bayers Activities During the Summer Holidays

We had all sorts of creative activities for our Busy Bayers during the summer holidays, from making a mini aquarium and designing a board game to creating salt dough creatures and African Art. We also welcomed some new activities to our timetable, including Welsh for beginners, first aid awareness for children and cooking skills. Our ‘Meet the Bees’ sessions were such a success over the summer that we carried them on into September; if you’re quick you may still be able to attend one of our weekend sessions taking place for the rest of the month. You can view the dates and times and book a session on our online booking system plus we’re also selling Silver Bay Honey from our bees, which can be purchased at the reception or spa.

Beach Activities

At the beginning of August we ran our fishing competition with all proceeds going to the RNLI. It was a great turnout and we want to thank everyone who took part; congratulations to Kevin McLean for heaviest bag, Holly Watts for being our junior winner and Gail Booth Bull Hurs for heaviest fish.

This year we ran our sandcastle competition a bit differently and asked you to submit your entries online, allowing everyone to vote for their favourite sandcastle creation. Congratulations to Holly Keary for coming first place, the Andersons for coming second and Rose and Poppy Hayward for coming third.

Our sandcastle competition winners were announced at Beach Mudder where owners competed once again for the Beach Mudder crown. Congratulations to Robert’s Runners for coming in first place, Pineapple Pickers for landing second place and Bates-ish Family for getting third place.

With October half term just weeks away, don’t forget to keep an eye out for an update on all the activities we have planned for you. This year we’re running a children’s cake design competition, giving your little ones the opportunity to design our Halloween cake, from the decor to the filling; all they need is a blank piece of paper and a creative imagination. We’ll be judging each design based on the idea and not on the quality of the drawing. You can post your entries to Reception, Silver Bay Holiday Village, Pentre Gwyddel, Rhoscolyn, Holyhead, Anglesey LL65 2RZ or email reception@silverbay.co.uk and the winning entry will be made and revealed at our Halloween party; entries close Friday 19th October. This year the Halloween party will be taking place on Saturday 27th October, you will be able to purchase tickets from our online booking system and we’ll be sure to let you know when tickets go on sale. We look forward to seeing you all back here!

Over the next couple of months we are welcoming a brand new football pitch together with a multi use games area (MUGA) to provide all of our owners the perfect space to have fun and play a multitude of sports.

The new football pitch (turf being laid as we speak) will be situated on the field behind the spa and will be accessed by a new path. Whether it’s a large group or just a couple of friends having a kickabout, the new pitch will offer a great space for the whole family to enjoy. The backdrop of the Llyn Peninsula will make this a stunning area to enjoy a little exercise and competition!

The tennis court is also currently being transformed into a MUGA, meaning the court will be multifunctional – great to play tennis as well as a variety of other sports including football, netball and basketball.

We’ll make sure to keep you updated on the progress and will follow up with photos of the new pitch and MUGA when they are ready. Keep an eye out on our blog, as well as our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts for any updates.

The Easter holidays may almost be over but we’re still feeling in that holiday mood from the success of our Easter activities. We want to thank everyone that visited Silver Bay during the holidays, it wouldn’t have been the same without you!

From scuba diving and lifeguarding to football and pilates, and not forgetting a whole selection of arts and crafts activities for the Busy Bayers, there really was something for everyone to enjoy over the holidays.

This year we changed things up slightly for the Silver Bay Easter egg hunt with people of all ages searching every nook and cranny of the park for codes to solve the final puzzle; it was great to see friends and families working together to find the codes and earn their Easter eggs.

After working up an appetite at the Easter egg hunt we served up a carvery with a selection of different meats and all the trimmings. We received some great feedback on the carvery and will be doing it again soon, keep an eye on our Facebook page for any updates.

Halfway through the holidays we welcomed prospective lodge owners to our Easter Open Day to experience Silver Bay for themselves, including our luxury lodges, facilities and beach. We hope to open our gates again soon so make sure to keep an eye out for our next email invite.

With themed nights from Hollywood Glamour to Halloween parties, we get the kids all excited with a disco and encourage fancy dress.

Parents can relax with friends over a few drinks whilst children get to dance the night away – perfect!

And then you get to watch one of our many photo montage videos after and relive the night.

17/Nov/2018

The best childhood memories have their origins in summertime. Camping in the back garden, lapping up ice cream, and spending the long evenings in the company of family are memories we can all cherish.

But we know that little ones aren’t always easy to please, either.

So, if you’re taking a trip down to Anglesey this summer, then there are a host of wonderful activities to keep you and the little ones occupied. We’ve cherry-picked our favourite attractions – from rib riding to crab fishing – and we’re certain your little ones will love them too.

1. Crab fishing at Beaumaris Pier

Beaumaris Pier is famous for its stunning views and relaxed atmosphere. But it is also a haven for children who want to experience everything sun, sea, and sand related – including crab fishing.

crab fishing silver bay anglesey north wales

In fact, Beaumaris Pier is perfectly suited for crabbing with its low railings and friendly atmosphere.

All you need to take part is:

  • String

  • Bait (bacon, chicken, or fish…)

  • Heavy object to keep the bait on the string

  • Children’s fishing net

Simply tie your bait to a piece of string and wrap the line around your finger. Then lower the string into the sea and wait until you feel the crab tug.

Once you’ve made contact with the crab, you can slowly begin to pull the string upwards without frightening the creature. Just before it reaches the surface you can use a fishing net to make sure you don’t lose the crab.

If you plan on keeping the crab, then make sure you have a bucket of salt water nearby. Children will love releasing the crabs back into the water later on – so keep a good eye on them in the mean time.

After all that’s done, finish off with an ice cream at Red Boat and enjoy the last of the day’s sunshine.

2. Anglesey Riding Centre

If not everyone in your brood loves the idea of crabbing, then perhaps some horse riding will be more up their street.

The Anglesey Riding Centre is perfect for little ones who want to experience some pony trekking, beach riding, or even one-on-one lessons. The classes are suited to every learner type, including beginners, so there’s no need for first-time nerves.

But what makes Tal y Foel really special, beyond the horses, is its stunning views across the Menai Straits. You will see Caernarfon Castle in all its glory, including little boats going to and fro across the bay.

This is a wonderful day out for children and adults alike.

3. Foel Farm Park

Foel Farm Park is one of our favourite attractions in Anglesey – especially if you’re travelling with the pitter patter of tiny feet.

A real working farm, Foel Farm Park gives children the opportunity to experience first-hand what it’s like to live and work with agricultural animals. There’s plenty of chances to get up close and personal with the animals too, like piglets, sheep, and more horses.

Foel Farm Park also has a lovely onsite cafe and gift shop, offering a welcome chance for parents to relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery. On a sunny day, the outdoor terrace boasts views to Menai Strait and Snowdonia.

We definitely recommend you set aside an afternoon for this lovely attraction.

4. Pili Palas Nature World

Sticking with the animal theme, there is one last warm and fuzzy site you have to visit in Anglesey.

This fun-loving nature world has every kind of creature you could imagine, from meerkats to llamas. There are also a number of daily activities that children can take part in – such as:

  • Meet the Snake

  • Lizard Land

  • Bugs (including stick insects and millipedes)

  • Pets (rabbits or guinea pigs)

You can even be a zookeeper for the day, if you fancy.

5. Rib Ride

Last, but certainly not least, any family traveling to Anglesey has to experience Rib Ride.

This has been routinely voted the best thing to do on our island, and it’s not hard to see why.

Travelling on one of their high speed boasts, tourists will be given the chance to whip under Britannia Bridge and see Anglesey’s famous shipwrecks, whirlpools, and stunning coastline.

You will also get the chance to see ‘Millionaires Row’, before travelling past Caernarfon Castle and Fort Belan.

Expect to learn everything there is to know about Anglesey and this island’s rich cultural heritage in the most heart-thumping way possible.

There’s a reason why Rib Ride is so popular.

But when you’re out and exploring, it’s important to have plenty of options when it comes to attractions too. And with amazing places like Anglesey Riding Centre and Beaumaris Pier just a stone’s throw away, we can’t think of anywhere better to be.
