Did you know that your holiday home is also a base to explore the culinary delights that the island of Anglesey has to offer? What better way to enjoy Anglesey than eating local produce by what Anglesey is best known for, its coastline, strewn with great examples and here, we feature just a few for your enjoyment. Be warned that opening times are often dependent on both the weather and the availability of local produce so it’s worth checking in before you set off.

Some of these cafe’s and beach huts don’t have websites or a Facebook presence so we’ve done our best to provide links where we can! Of course, you might choose to walk or cycle to any of these from your holiday home, but to give you an idea of distance, we’ve measured it by drive time.

Lligwy Beach Cafe
Rated the No1. beach in North Wales by The Sunday Times, Lligwy Beach is truly stunning with very shallow waters. The cafe itself serves wonderful home-made pastries, cakes and hot drinks. The neighbouring shacks house wood-fired pizza and an ice-cream parlour.

Licence To Grill

You’ll catch this memorable mobile takeaway on the picturesque Porth Dafarch beach, near Trearddur Bay with lovely spots that are sheltered from the wind. They have the first word in local produce & you can keep up with them via their Facebook where they post which fresh seafood they are serving day to day. Popular dishes include catches of the day such as lobster, dressed crab and mussles. In addition, for those after something meatier they serve locally sourced meats and to finish off if there’s still room, they also have a wide selection of locally baked cheesecakes for dessert.

And of course, nestled on Silver Bay beach (Rhoscolyn), we have our very own Beach Shack, home to great coffee and snacks during peak times, whenever the sun is shining.

Finally, even though it’s not, strictly speaking, a beach cafe, we need to mention the Marram Grass where, one could argue, the most recent foodie revolution on Anglesey started. This grassroots caravan site cafe/bistro elevated the Barrie Brothers to stardom.

Easter is a wonderful time of year at Silver Bay, and although this year we may have to do things a little differently, we’ve worked hard to ensure you can still celebrate the holiday with lots of fun activities to keep the whole family occupied. It is important now more than ever that we come together and maintain the strong community that we pride ourselves on at Silver Bay, and continue to make a lifetime of treasured memories. Keep reading to see all of the fun activities we will be bringing you over the next 2 weeks!

Virtual Easter Egg Hunt

Every year we put on a fun Easter Egg Hunt around the holiday park, it’s an activity that everybody looks forward to. We couldn’t go a year without it, so we’re going to be running a VIRTUAL Easter Egg Hunt on Easter Sunday! The game is simple, we will be hiding eggs on multiple different pages of our website, and the aim is for you to find as many of the eggs as possible! We will provide a form for you to fill out with links to the pages where you have found the eggs. Find them all to be named a Busy Bayer champion!

Egg Decorating Competition

Arts and crafts is a fun and popular activity amongst our Busy Bayers, and we want to ensure we continue to provide these activities! We are going to be holding an egg decorating competition, a chance for you to get creative with your family and show off your decorating skills. To take part in this activity, you will need a hard boiled egg and any materials of your choice to decorate it (the more creative the better!). We will be announcing this on our Facebook later in the week so you can share your creations in the comments of the post. We look forward to seeing what you come up with!

Instagram Quiz

How well do you know Anglesey? Put your Anglesey knowledge to the test in a fun quiz that we will be doing over on our Instagram next week. Compete against friends and families to see who knows Anglesey the best! Make sure to keep an eye on our Instagram for this fun, family activity.

A Lifetime of Treasured Memories

Silver Bay is all about treasured memories, from bbq’s at the beach to parties at The Deckhouse. We’re encouraging all owners, past and present, to share their favourite memories and photos from over the years. We are going to be creating a memory wall on Facebook with all of the photos that have been sent to us, giving you the opportunity to look back at all of the fun times that have been had at Silver Bay. If you would like to send us some photos, please do so over on our Facebook. We can’t wait to see all of the old memories!

Photo Challenge

Another way in which we are encouraging our Busy Bayers to keep creative is with a fun photo challenge! Starting from next week (W/C 13th April), we will be posting some photo challenges for the children to get involved with. This will include things such as building structures out of any materials you can find and taking a photo of it to share with us. This is a fun and easy activity that is sure to keep the Busy Bayers, well, busy! Keep an eye out on our Facebook each day to see the new challenges, we will be sharing some of our favourites at the end of the week.

Easter Recipes

What better way to spend time indoors than baking! Over the next two weeks, we will be sharing some of our favourite Easter baking recipes on our Facebook account for you to try out at home. This is something fun for the whole family to get involved with, and you can even make it a competition to see which member of your family can decorate the best! We would love to see what you make, please share any photos with us over on our Facebook!

Colouring Activities

Colouring in is a really fun and easy activity for the children to do, to keep busy and keep creative! We have created some very special Silver Bay colouring activities, these are free to download and include activities such as, dot to dot, colouring in and a very special game called The Easter Bunny Hop – Find your way to Silver Bay, a snakes and ladders style of game based around Silver Bay! We would love to see photos of your drawings, make sure to send them to us over on our Facebook. Click the links below to download to print the sheets.

We’re already one week into December and that means Christmas isn’t far away! We’ve got some fantastic parties and activities still to come. Keep reading to find out more about the upcoming Christmas holiday activities at Silver Bay.

Christmas Holiday Activities

christmas holiday activities

Our Family Christmas Party was a great success and we still have some fantastic events coming up for the rest of the month.

Public Santa Event

We’re thrilled to announce that Santa is making another appearance at The Deck House and this time we’re opening it up to the public. Taking place on Sunday 15th December from 2pm to 5pm, each ticket includes a gift from Santa, a meal (hotdog/pizza with chips) and access to our new soft play area.

Santa is a very busy man at this time of year so booking is essential to make sure Santa has enough presents for everyone. Tickets for children are £5 and adults go free, but please make sure to book a ticket via our online booking system so we can keep track of numbers. Tickets are available to purchase until 1pm on Saturday 14th December and bookings are non-refundable.

Our bar and restaurant will be open for food and drink and all the money raised from the event will be donated to Fundraising to buy Defibrillators for Anglesey Schools. Fundraising to buy Defibrillators for Anglesey Schools is a local fundraising group formed by mums. Their aim is to raise money in order to purchase a defibrillator for every school or nursery setting on Anglesey who do not already have one. A defibrillator is a potentially life saving piece of equipment and can increase the chance of survival of sudden cardiac arrest by up to 90% if treatment is provided within one minute. Having a unit on site makes our schools and nurseries a safer place, not only for the children, their teachers, assistants, and other school staff, but also for parents and grandparents dropping and collecting their children.

New Year’s Eve Party

You’re invited to welcome in 2020 with friends and family at The Deck House, starting at 5pm on Thursday 31st December. We’ll have live music from Uptown Beat followed by a disco until 1am. Preparing Your Holiday Home for Winter

It’s important to follow the below steps when leaving your holiday home unoccupied over winter. Here are our top tips:

  • Secure all outdoor furniture, including bunkers and sheds, to prevent damage in high winds
  • Ensure you have emptied all fridge/freezers, cupboards and bird feeders of food
  • Stand all seat cushions on end to allow air to circulate
  • Make sure all fixed ventilation is not obstructed and wardrobes and internal doors are left open
  • Check all windows and external doors are tightly closed, including skylights
  • Check you have securely locked your holiday home
  • Lodge owners may wish to leave their boilers on frost stat to prevent frost damage
  • Caravan owners may wish to drain their water system to prevent frost damage to pipes. We offer a drain down service to all caravan owners at Silver Bay so if you require a drain down, please contact Owner Services on 01407 860860 or reception@bulmerleisure.co.uk (this may be compulsory with some insurance policies – make sure to check your caravan insurance requirements). To reconnect your caravan we require at least five days notice so please give us plenty of notice when you wish to return.

We look forward to seeing you all for our Christmas holiday activities and wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! See you in February 2020 when we reopen for the new season.

Silver Bay Owners Annual Summer Party

As always, we like to show our appreciation to all our fantastic holiday home owners and celebrate the beginning of the summer holidays with a summer party. This year the summer party takes place on Saturday 27th July.

This year the theme is ‘Film Stars’ – dress up as your favourite! Doors will open at 5pm with the children’s buffet available from 5:15pm to 6pm in time for the children’s entertainer. The adult buffet will be available later in the evening with live music from Four Kicks and dancing until 1am.

Here’s a reminder of our summer party last year:

Summer Holiday Activities at the Pool

Our inviting swimming pool with dedicated lanes and splash area is perfect for relaxing or having some family fun.

Get your morning swim in before an action-packed day with our adult only swim sessions, every day 9:30 – 10:30am.

Or join us every Thursday afternoon for our Rookie Lifeguard sessions, aimed at children aged eight and above and starting at 4pm. The summer holidays are also a great time to kick start your child’s swimming or improve their skills with our one-to-one swimming lessons, every Thursday at 5pm and 5:30pm.

In the gym

summer holidays 2019

Our state of the art gym is the perfect place for working up a sweat and getting active.

On Mondays and Saturdays we have spinning classes, focused on endurance, strength, intervals, high intensity and recovery. Or maybe you want to give our kettlebell classes a try, every Friday at 5:45pm, for a total body workout, including dynamic movement, cardio and strength training.

Improve your physical strength, flexibility, posture and enhance your mental awareness with our Pilates classes at 6pm every Tuesday or tone and sculpt your body with our Zumba classes at 6:45pm every Tuesday – a fun way to burn calories!

Outdoor Activities

summer holidays 2019

We’re hoping to be blessed with warm weather over the holidays and what better way to make the most of the weather than taking part in one of our outdoor activities.

Your little ones can practise their serve every Monday with our tennis sessions; we have sessions at 11am for children under six years old and sessions at 12pm for ages six and above. Or if they fancy giving soccer a go, we have the Soccer School every Wednesday at 1pm for ages six and above.

We’ve also got family sessions so everyone can get involved, including family waterpolo every Tuesday at 1pm, family archery every Thursday at 1pm and family football every Friday at 1pm.

On Saturday 10th August we’ll be hosting our annual fishing competition (weather dependent); to enter it’s £10 per boat, £5 per adult and children go free. Book your place at the Silver Bay reception.

Over the bank holiday weekend we’ll be hosting our annual sandcastle competition, Beach Mudder and more. Keep an eye on our Facebook page for updates.

Busy Bayers

For the little creators out there, we have all sorts of arts and crafts activities planned, from sewing skills, mocktails and cake pops to tie dye beach bags, playdough factory and trash to treasure.

Preserving the local environment and wildlife is a priority for us here at Silver Bay so we’re offering sessions aimed at protecting the local wildlife and recycling. On Monday 5th August and Monday 19th August we have Saving Squirrels sessions at 3pm. On Monday 29th July and Monday 12th August we’ll be holding Hedgehog Rescue sessions at 3pm.

Our bees are back for summer, of course, and we’ll be holding Meet the Bees sessions every Thursday at 10:30am and 1pm so plenty of time to see how they’re doing. You’ll also be able to have a go at harvesting honey with Jonathan, our beekeeper, or beeswax candle making on selected Thursdays at 3:30pm. Make sure to check the timetable for dates.

Our family movie nights have been a great success so we’re bringing them back for summer. Kick back and relax with a film, every Monday and Wednesday at 6pm.

This is just a taste of all the fantastic Busy Bayer sessions taking place over the summer holidays, so make sure to check the summer holiday timetable for the full list.

You can find out more about each session and book over on our online booking system. We would recommend booking in advance to avoid disappointment as spaces are limited. Booking is available for each session from 10am on the day before the activity is due to take place.

We look forward to seeing you all over the summer holidays 2019!

It’s that time again! We look forward to seeing you all here over the holidays; keep reading to find out more about our May Half Term 2019 holiday activities. We’d like to start off by thanking everyone that joined us over the Easter holidays; we were blessed with some amazing weather and we hope you made the most of it on Silver Bay beach. Well done to everyone that took part in our Easter egg hunt and well done to the adults that searched high and low for the golden tickets. The lucky winners were the Patey-Kreitzman and McColl families.

We’re thrilled to announce that The Deck House Easter raffle raised £200 for the RNLI and £55 for the Air Ambulance so thank you to everyone that took part.

And finally, we wouldn’t be able to offer such a first class experience without the help of our lovely staff so here’s a shout out to our team members of the month:

March – Shane (Maintenance Team)

April – Lynne (Housekeeping Team)

Our commitment to the environment

We are pleased to announce that, once again, we have been awarded the Green Coast Award as we continue to help the ongoing protection of our coastline and wildlife. As part of our commitment to the rural environment and the impact of the coastal path, we have started to plant indigenous species to reestablish the flora and fauna.

Plus, it’s almost time to welcome back our bees! Make sure to book onto a session with Jonathan to meet the queen and her hard workers.

Events at The Deck House

We’re kicking off the May half term with a gin tasting night at 6pm on Tuesday 28th May. You’ll have the opportunity to sample a selection of Aber Falls Gin with accompanying canapés. Make sure to reserve your place by calling The Deck House on 01407 862046.

We also have an amazing offer on for those dining with little ones. Join us between 5:30pm and 6:30pm and children eat for just £1.50 with every adult meal. We know how difficult it can be sometimes to keep your little ones entertained on a rainy day; it won’t be long until our new soft play area is up and running at The Deck House to help ease their boredom.

This year, our annual owner’s summer party takes place on Saturday 27th July. The theme this year is “Film Stars” so make sure you have your best costume ready to walk down the red carpet. Tickets are limited so early booking is highly recommended.

Other upcoming events and activities

Get practising your swing for our golf competition, taking place on Saturday 15th June. Entry is £10 and all proceeds will go to Wales Air Ambulance. If you’d like to find out more and register, please leave your name and number with reception.
