We have some incredibly loving and generous residents on-site here at Silver Bay, and nowhere is this more evident than during the recent charity drive on-site hosted Charlotte Jordan, 12.

Inspired by recent television coverage of Alder Hey Hospital, Charlotte set to work with her sister Amelia. They created an array of sweet treats and laminated bookmarks in order to raise money for the Children’s Hospital.

Charlotte and Amelia enlisted other young philanthropists at Silver Bay to help raise money once onsite. Both Polly Stoddart and Charlotte Dry were recruited to sell the goods.

The items quickly sold out. But wanting to reach their target of £100, the girls decided to offer a bin emptying service to other lodge owners. They gave generously and the girls managed to smash their original target.

Charlotte Jordan was really proud of the outcome of the charity drive. She said: “I had seen the kids in Alder Hey on the TV and I thought it would be a nice idea to help them. It was really fun and we hope to do it again sometime.”

We’d like to say thank you to the girls for doing something so incredible during their Silver Bay holidays. You’re a wonderful inspiration to us all!

More and more people are choosing to holiday in the UK instead of jetting off to a foreign destination than ever before.

Ahead of the August bank holiday, it was reported that 5.1 million Britons were going on holiday and that 4.6 million of them were planning a staycation – meaning now could really be the perfect time to become a holiday home owner in the UK.

Need a little more convincing? We’ve listed some of the amazing benefits of owning a home on the British shores below.

1. Lifestyle Choice

If you’d like access to a luxury holiday lifestyle without needing to leave the country, then a holiday home in the UK is the perfect choice.

Relaxing, luxurious and a home away from home, buying property in the UK will ensure you have a lifestyle choice infused with all three of those things.

Why not take a look at our properties right here to see what we mean?

2. The Value of the Pound

It has been no secret since Brexit that the value of the pound has dropped. At the current rate, you can expect to get $1.34 dollars for every £1 and €1.18 euros.

So how do you prevent forking out more money for your holidays than ever before? Well, that would be by staying in the UK.

Having a holiday home in Britain means you don’t have to worry about exchange rates because you know how much it’s going to cost already – and you’ll also know the typical prices of your holiday home’s location.

Is it time you put unpredictable currency rates to bed with a UK holiday home?

3. Close to Home

Ever had a weekend where you wish you could escape? Perhaps work that week has been particularly draining, or maybe you’d like to treat your loved ones to a holiday?

With a UK holiday home you have that freedom.

Holidays at the drop of a hat are an excellent privilege to Silver Bay owners, and it’s one of the main reasons so many choose to buy one of our properties.

Simply hop into your car and head to Anglesey for a wonderful weekend – it really is that easy to get away without leaving the country.

4. Guaranteed Kids Entertainment

One of the hardest part of any holiday for a family is ensuring the kids have access to activities that will keep them occupied.

But owning a holiday home will allow you to cherry pick a fantastic destination where you know you can always rely on someone looking out for your little ones.

Here at Silver Bay, we host an array of exciting activities that your kids will love to be involved with. From baking through to junk modeling, kids discos and much more – there’s something for everyone hosted throughout the school holidays!

5. A place for family and friends to visit

Although subletting is not permitted at Silver Bay, your family and friends will be able to stay at your property.

All you need to do is contact reception and make them aware that someone else will be visiting your holiday home, and from there all your family and friends will have a fantastic holiday home escape in the UK, too.

We’re certain you’ll become more popular than ever with a stunning Silver Bay home under your belt!

6. Nostalgia

When you think back to holidays as a child, what do you see? Holidays in Blackpool, indulging in ice cream on Britain’s beaches? We knew back then that we didn’t need to leave the country to have a holiday, and this still stands true today.

How special would it be to leave your children with the same memories on Silver Bay beach? It’s time to nurture memories that will last a lifetime and create something magical with a UK holiday property.

7. Take your pets on holiday, too!

Who says holidays are just for humans? At Silver Bay we accommodate pets too – just make sure you let us know before you arrive!

Bringing your pets with you means you don’t have to fork out costs for kennels and sitters, and we know that pets are also a key part of any family unit – so why not keep ALL of your loved ones together on your next break and take everyone in your family away?

The aurora lights are one of the most incredible phenomenons we have the opportunity to witness here on Earth – and we’re luckier than most on Anglesey because we have the chance to see these wonderful colours in the sky on our very own doorstep.

Best seen between September and April, the Aurora Lights, also known as the Northern Lights, are a natural light show that awe and inspire like no other – which is why we’ve decided to create a guide dedicated to increasing your chances to seeing this marvel on our island.

And remember, if you catch any pictures over Anglesey on your hunt, be sure to share them with us – we’d love to see!

Image sourced from Wikimedia.

Step 1 Visit the Website Aurora Watch

You can find anything on the internet these days, including a website detailing exactly when you can expect to find the Northern Lights over the UK.

To increase your chance of seeing the lights, make sure you visit the Aurora Watch website before you head out. It will tell you, via it’s colour coded schedule, whether or not you can expect to see the lights in your area at a particular moment in time. It’s a great starting point before you head out into the night with your camera!

If you’re super interested in seeing the lights, you can also set up email alerts so that you know when the lights are forecast to be strong. It’s a handy website for those in the UK wanting to see this tribute to the magnificence of nature.

Step 2 Make Sure The Weather’s Right

It’s vital to remember during your pursuit hunt for the Northern Lights that although there may be reports of light activity, you need the correct weather to be able to see the show in all its glory.

The most important weather factor to consider is cloud cover. If you hope to catch a glimpse of the lights, a clear night will fast become your best friend.

Make sure to always check the weather forecast before heading out – you don’t want to be disappointed!

Step 3 – Make Sure You’re Looking in the Right Direction

It might not always be 100% obvious where the lights are, so an integral part of aurora discovery hunting is to make certain that you’re looking in the right direction.

With that in mind, the name itself is a big clue with regards to the direction of the lights – they’re not called the Northern Lights for nothing! Take a compass out with you to help you with the direction you’re facing. There’s also a handy little compass on Google Maps at the top of the page on the app if you don’t have a traditional compass to hand.

Step 4 – Stay away from Artificial Light

Picture of the Northern Lights.

Just like the best places to see stars are those away from houses and streetlights, so too is your best chance of seeing the Northern Lights. Head to an area where you know you already have a good view of the stars with a chance to see the lights.

Even if the lights don’t show up, the view of stars that night will also be one to remember.

Step 5 – Wrap Up Warm!

The Northern Lights tend to appear during the colder months of the year, September through to April, so during your hunt be sure that everyone in your party is thoroughly wrapped up. You can also make a night of it by bringing along thermal flasks filled with soothing tea or hot juice for your little ones – it will certainly make the evening a magical one.

Step 6 – Check The Time

If you’re following a recommendation from Aurora Watch, we recommend you stick to the times they recommend. However, if you’re heading out alone and want to make the most of your Northern Lights hunt, the best time to look for them are between 5pm and 2am.

Keep your watch or phone handy with the time, and alongside the right weather conditions, direction and also lack of artificial lights, you’re in good stead to see the amazing Aurora Lights.

Step 7 – Know What You’re Looking For

Northern Lights on Anglesey

Heading out to see the Northern Lights can be an educational trip as well as an inspiring one. If you have little ones with you, why not explain where the lights are coming from?

According to the Northern Light’s Centre, ‘The bright dancing lights of the aurora are actually collisions between electrically charged particles from the sun that enter the earth’s atmosphere.’

Passing this information onto children will help make this trip one about learning, as well as seeing something magnificent in the sky. We’ve also posted pictures throughout this blog to help you identify exactly what the Northern Lights may look like – just remember, they might not be as bright as some of these images.

Make sure you take a good camera if you want to capture your Northern Lights memories – you’ll be glad you did if they make an appearance!

This year was one of our best events to date thanks to our stunning new Deck House facilities, and it was fantastic to see the smiling faces of our residents having a wonderful night with their friends and loved ones!

A family at the silver bay summer party

Alongside drinks and food, the party atmosphere quickly became contagious thanks to our cover band The Runaway Babies. It was impossible not to hit the dance floor when the band took to the stage, which you’ll soon see from our videos and photos below!

We’re glad everyone had such a superb night in our brand new refurbished restaurant, lounge, and bar. We’re already thinking about how we can top it next year! But for now, why not see if you and your family made the video below?

We’re extremely excited to welcome our lovely residents inside as the final part of a 2-year, multi-million-pound upgrade is completed.

silver-bay-holiday-village-anglesey-the-deck house-bar

We chose The Deck House for the name to reflect the stunning views from the terrace and beyond. However, you’ll still find the rustic charm of the farmhouse inside which we’ve made over too!

Our General Manager, Jamie Hughes, stated: “The new Deck House encapsulates everything that Silver Bay is about. It’s a place where everyone can come together, relax and have a great time whilst taking in the wonderful views we have here at Silver Bay. The Deck House is going to be a place where many happy Silver Bay memories are made for many years to come.”

As well as the new look, we’ve also brought in some fantastic chefs who have crafted a stunning, contemporary menu making the most of local ingredients. We pride ourselves on supporting local business and are working with artisan bakers and local Anglesey ice cream providers. We believe the quality shines truely shines through.

The cider-making Bulmer family are the owners of the land at Silver bay, and Nick Bulmer is incredibly excited about the new development. He said: “We are very proud of the way that Silver Bay continues to go from strength-to-strength. The Deck House makes Silver Bay the premier choice for a holiday home in north Wales whilst retaining the family ethos and values that are so important to us.

“This recent investment also underlines our continued commitment to tourism in Anglesey and north Wales as a whole.”

Most Silver Bay residents reach us by car, and because of this there are many spur of the moment trips to our luxury holiday park – especially when the weather changes its tune and flows with glorious sunshine!

But sometimes this spontaneity can lead people to forget things. That’s why we always recommend you have a select few things in your vehicle just in case of an unplanned holiday – and believe us when we say, they’re usually the best kind of break!

1. Tissues

It may sound like an odd thing to put in the car, but tissues really can be a lifesaver when you’ve got a vehicle full of excitable little ones!

For sniffly noses, dirty hands and drink spills, they’re a great way to ensure you can tidy yourselves up whilst on the road. So remember to pack some tissues in your car.

2. Snacks

Snacks at Silver Bay for the road trip

There’s nothing worse than being stuck in a traffic jam whilst hungry. Tension will be running high, and both you and your little ones will find yourselves ‘hangry’ (cross between angry and hungry!)

Packing some sweets and snacks can really take the edge off it. A packet of crisps or a chocolate biscuit could be exactly what they need to keep them going until you’re able to stop and grab a bite to eat.

3. Spare change

It’s always good to have an extra bit of cash in your vehicle because you never know when you might need some money. Whether it’s paying for a toll road or picking up a few snacks along the way, spare change can be a real life saver.

4. CDs/and old MP3 player

You don’t want to keep anything too valuable in your car, but on the off-chance that you’re unable to listen via your usual method such as Spotify – try exploring your old CDs. It can be a great pastime and a lot of fun for the whole family!

5. Travel pillows

Sleeping in a car isn’t the most comfortable thing in the world, but with a travel pillow you can actually have a pleasant nap. These pillows fit around the back of your neck and ensure your head is supported whilst you doze.

We think you’ll agree when we say that it’s a much better look than a squashed face on a car window!

6. Headphones

Headphones Silver Bay Roadtrip 2016

How many times have you gone on holiday with your iPad and forgot your headphones?

By ensuring you have some in the car, your little ones or yourself will be able to watch things on their mobile devices or listen to music without irritating anyone else during the journey.

This is even better if they’re of the noise canceling variety!

7. Wet Wipes

As well as tissues, wet wipes can also be a great idea to help clean up any messy fingers who have been enjoying chocolate biscuits.

They’re also good to keep germs and colds from spreading on your trip!

8. First Aid Equipment

You never know what’s going to happen on a journey, so having a first aid kit close to hand is certainly a good idea.

Whether all you need is a little plaster or something more serious, it could really make a huge difference when it comes to the health and safety of everyone in the vehicle – so don’t underestimate this one!

9. Phone charger

Why is it that our phones always seem to run out of battery when we need them the most?

Keeping a phone charger in your car will help avoid any of these tricky situations – making sure you don’t get stranded on the motorway having to walk a mile to reach the nearest call for help phone!

10. Blankets

Whether you need them for a picnic, or if your car breaks down and you need to get out yet keep warm, blankets can be an inexpensive way to do this without needing to pack everyone’s winter coats on every trip you take.

Plus, they’re also great for snuggling up with on a long journey!

Silver Bay Holiday Village

We hope you now feel prepared in case of an emergency Silver Bay holiday! There’s nothing quite like having the freedom of packing your bags and car whenever you like and heading on holiday without having to pay extra for flights or accommodation.

If you think this freedom sounds like something you could be interested in for you and your family, be sure to give us a shout.

You can contact us by filling in our contact form or give us a call on 01407 860 111 to find out more.

We also have a lovely brochure here if you’re after more information!

The Summer holidays are finally here! It’s a great time to be a kid because there are six long weeks to have some much-deserved fun after a hard school year. However, it’s important as parents to make sure your child doesn’t switch off fully during the break, and also that they keep their studying up to ensure they’re ready to head back and learn even more come September. And just because you’re on holiday, doesn’t mean the kids can’t learn.

In fact, there are plenty of opportunities to make sure your kids find time to study whilst still having buckets of fun.

So if you’re a parent wondering how you’re going to fit some study time during your holiday, and also how you’re going to get them to do it, don’t worry. – we’re here to help!

1. Encourage Them to Keep a Diary

Notebook silver bay busy bayers children

When your child hasn’t lifted a pen or pencil for around 6 weeks, it can be quite a hard slog for them returning to school in September.

However, an easy way for your children to keep writing during the break is to keep a diary.

Encourage them to write down their favourite parts of the days when you’re away and suggest doing a drawing to illustrate them too.

It will get them writing and working on their handwriting, as well as their English. This fun activity can even be enjoyed by the other members of the family too – which might make your little ones more inclined to do their work!

2. Educate Them with Culture

Every child loves a trip to a museum, and when you’re staying on Anglesey there are plenty of opportunities to educate and excite them with an educational twist.

We have a range of both galleries and museums that the kids will love here, and some of our favourites include the Beaumaris Gaol and the Anglesey Transport Museum.

A trip to the South stack lighthouse is another way to get them thinking whilst also making for a pleasant afternoon out for the whole family.

There are plenty of opportunities to make learning fun by a culture visit – you just have to find them.

3. Get Reading

Chances are your child might already have some reading to do over the summer, but if not, then you can keep their reading skills in check by getting them to read to you or your partner.

It will help them when the new term rolls around again, and even if your little one is reluctant to do so – you taking the time to read to them instead will engage their brains and get them thinking creatively.

4. Encourage Them To Create

Silver Bay Holiday Village Anglesey Arts and Crafts

Just like keeping a diary will get your children thinking in a creative way, it can also be a good idea to encourage them to partake in some art activities too.

Whether you nip to your local craft shop and stock up on glue, paint and tissue paper – or perhaps pull out something more basic like some plain paper and pens and pencils, it’s the perfect way to have fun and get those arty fingers working too!

5. Create A Treasure Trail

There’s nothing more fun than setting up a treasure trail for the kids to enjoy this Summer! It takes a bit of time on your behalf, but what’s really great about this is that you can leave clues which require a riddle to solve.

Whether they are required to do some basic maths, such as addition or times tables, or perhaps have to solve something a little more complex if they’re older, it gets them thinking without them even realising that they’re working hard on something.

They’ll be more interested in the treasure trail treat at the end!

6. Set Aside a Time for Homework – and Make it Fun!

Nobody likes homework, but it’s a necessary evil when you’re learning the knowledge that will set you up for life during your school years.

However, homework doesn’t have to be a drag. By introducing elements such as some tasty snacks such as carrot sticks and dips or perhaps some tasty popcorn, homework might not seem like such a horrible process.

Teach your little ones that sometimes learning can be fun, too!

Silver Bay & You

If you’re looking for somewhere where you and the kids can retreat to every Summer then why not consider taking a look at our lodges here at Silver Bay?

We’re a luxury holiday park on Anglesey with our very own private beach, recently renovated bar and bistro and a £1.6 million spa development for the whole family to enjoy.

To find out more, either give us a call on 01407 860 111 or fill in our request a callback form right here. You can also download our eBrochure to discover exactly what Silver Bay is all about!

It’s finally Summer time, and residents from far and wide are flocking to Silver Bay for another Summer of fantastic fun. But in between hitting the spa and relaxing on the beach, there’s plenty of time to switch off from the real world and settle down with a good book.

We’ve searched high and low to bring you the very best Summer reads to complete your Silver Bay visit. So without further hesitation, explore the reads below and head down to your local bookstore – just in time for the Summer holidays!

1. A Game of Thrones by George R R Martin

For a breathtaking read that will send chills down your spine, you can’t go far wrong with the first book of George R R Martin’s A Song of Fire and Ice series.

It’s quite a thick book, making for the perfect Summer read for those on long Silver Bay breaks. Filled with battles, love and betrayal – Game of Thrones is the perfect novel to keep you on the edge of your beach towel.

And because it’s such a long series you can continue to read his books long after you’ve headed back home, too.

2. Me Before You by Jojo Moyes

When a book is turned into a film, it’s usually a sign that the original novel is a great read. And this is especially true of Jojo Moyes’ Me Before You.

Moyes takes us on a journey with themes of love and an exploration of human relationships. It shows two unlikely characters thrown together and how they fall for one another.

Moyes creates the perfect backdrop for love to flourish, and this novel really is romantic fiction at its finest.

3. Luckiest Girl Alive by Jessica Knoll

The title of this one may seem like it’s going to be a chic lit read, but in actual fact, the novel is a nail-biting thriller that is perfectly suited to both genders.

This is the first novel from Jessica Knoll, and you’ll find it hard to put down the tale that follows Ani Fanelli and her life, as well as her disturbing past.

Ani gets the chance to reveal to a documentary producer what happened during a terrible incident back when she was in high school – but things soon start to fall apart.

This really is one that will have you hooked from page one, and we’re certain it will make a great reading companion on those lazy afternoons.

4. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child by JK Rowling, Jack Thorne and John Tiffany

Everyone loves Harry Potter, and although these books were created for children the stories are enjoyable for any age group.

Now JK Rowling has captured the 8th Harry Potter story alongside Jack Thorne and John Tiffany in a fantastic play.

In the play script, we’re introduced to Harry as an adult and follow the life of his son, Albus, as he ventures off to Hogwarts.

This book is slightly different in that it’s actually the scripts from part one and part two of The Cursed Child play – but don’t be put off. JK Rowling and co. manage to tell the story wonderfully whether in script format or traditional prose.

5. Night School by Lee Child

You may remember recently that a film under the title Jack Reacher was released starring Tom Cruise. Well, fans will be pleased because the Night School by Lee Child is the latest addition to the Jack Reacher story.

This book can be enjoyed by both men and woman, and it sees Jack head back to his old Army days, but with a twist.

It’s up to Jack to save the day once again, and without giving too much away, we’re certain you’ll love this read from the spectacular author that is Lee Child.

6. The Girl on The Train by Paula Hawkins

What’s great about this novel from Paula Hawkins is that it starts with the usual commute to work – something we’ve all faced at one point in our lives.

But this riveting story doesn’t stay this simple for long.

In the book, the reader follows the life of Rachel, who one day sees something on her morning train commute that will change her life forever.

The book is described as a ‘psychological thriller’, so if you’re looking for something to really capture your heart and soul whilst at Silver Bay Holiday Village, this could very well be the book you’ve been searching for!
