Silver-Bay-Holiday-Village-Taster-Weekend-Sian-Ediss.png

We invited Sian and her family for a taster weekend at Silver Bay and Sian documented her stay. Here’s her round-up of her Silver Bay experience. If you’re a prospective owner, it’s well worth a read…

Silver Bay Holiday Village was recommended to us by several friends – we were looking for a UK weekend break close to home in Manchester, where we could combine a bit of luxury with beautiful surroundings, activities and relaxation. I checked out the Silver Bay website and was immediately drawn to the stunning beauty of Anglesey, and the impressive look and layout of Silver Bay

Sian Ediss and her family on a taster weekend

Silver Bay offer a range of luxury lodge accommodation for ownership all within its beautiful location, and we were lucky enough to be offered a ‘taster weekend’, something which is available to all prospective lodge owners. The award-winning holiday village has numerous facilities including The Deck House restaurant, bar and lounge, ‘Busy Bayers’ children’s club and adventure play park, a secluded forest, beach and boat park, leisure complex including fitness centre, indoor swimming pool, sauna, jacuzzi and steam room and even a beauty salon.

We arrived at the tail-end of the autumn half-term holidays and there were still plenty of families enjoying their break. I was really impressed by the volume of activities on offer for children at the ‘Busy Bayers Club’. Activities range from creative tasks such as pottery painting, to outdoors activities such as ‘Wild Survivors’ coast and forest club and sports such as kayaking, water polo and ‘Try Scuba’. I also thought it was great that there was children’s entertainment every evening such as Movie Night and quizzes – perfect for when the grown-ups want to relax in The Deck House while children hang out in the nearby Busy Bayers area.

Luxurious Accommodation

There were three of us (myself, my boyfriend and my mum) and our accommodation was lovely. Our luxury lodge had 2 bedrooms, a bathroom, a fully-equipped kitchen, dining area and living room. All the lodges at Silver Bay also have central heating which we were hugely grateful for in the midst of November. Our comfortable dwelling was more than big enough for the 3 of us, with great-sized rooms, and our own outside area. If the weather had been warmer, we would have thoroughly enjoyed the outside decking and seating, but we only used this for a rather bracing viewpoint for Bonfire Night fireworks. There were beautiful views from our lodge spanning across the holiday village. We could see all around us the beautiful environment – lush greenery, wildlife, and rolling hills in the distance. Our lodge didn’t overlook the private beach, but we were less than 5-minutes away for brisk morning walks along the coast.

Award-Winning Grounds and Secluded Beach

On our first day, after a short 2.5-hour drive and a shop at the local supermarket,  we were there for 12.30pm. We unloaded the car and set-up our home for the next four days and then wrapped up and headed out for an explore. Silver Bay has recently won a Gold Standard David Bellamy Award for its contribution and preservation to the park’s wildlife. The love and care that the people put into the grounds and holiday park are clear to see. There were recently planted shrubs and trees around the children’s adventure play park area (some planted by the ‘Busy Bayers’ themselves!) and there was not a spot of litter in sight.

The secluded Green Coast Award-Winning beach is a sight to behold. The beautiful white sands are magnificently set against the backdrop of the Snowdonia mountains. The brisk November waves crashing on the sand and salty sea breeze made us feel a million miles away from the racing pace of Manchester, and we instantly felt a sense of relaxation and ease. We strolled along the coast and explored the rock pools and collected a few shells before we continued our adventure up to Silver Bay’s woodland and followed the path over some fields and back to the park. It was a lovely few hours to work up an appetite for an early dinner we planned in The Deck House.

The Deck House Restaurant, Bar, and Lounge

The Deck House Restaurant

After a leisurely couple of hours back at the lodge, we wandered over to The Deck House for 6 pm. We had heard wonderful reviews about Lee the Head Chef and his passion for locally sourced ingredients so we were very excited to sample The Deck House winter menu for ourselves. We were greeted by huge smiles from the waiting on team and were directed to our table for 3 next to the bi-fold windows. Although it was dark, it was still lovely to look out over flickering lights and the nightscape across the holiday park. The atmosphere in The Deck House was homely and comfortable. A few families with children were wrapping up their evening meals, and others were arriving in groups to settle in for the eve. There was even a section in the lounge where football fans could watch the Man Utd match; this was far enough away so not to disturb the ambience of the dining area but close enough so families felt all under one roof.

Andrew dining at the deck house

After much deliberation and pondering, we ordered our starters, lamb koftas (x2) and mushroom and stilton melt and then waited in anticipation for our main course of steak, chips and all the trimmings (x2) and a generous fish and chips – perfect fodder after our brisk walk earlier.

Fish and chips at The Deck House restaurant

The service was prompt and caring, and every measure was taken to ensure we were well fed, watered and comfortable. We were too full for pudding, but the lovely waitress insisted that we tried the homemade chocolate brownie and icecream and we weren’t disappointed!

We chatted away for a while amongst ourselves and with some seasoned ‘Silver Bayers’ and enjoyed a few more rounds of drinks before calling it a night – we had a busy day in store for day 2 after all!

The Spa and Beauty at Silver Bay

The jacuzzi and pool at Silver Bay

After a deep sleep, we were set for a morning of relaxation and beautify-ing at the Spa at Silver Bay. We’d booked our appointments beforehand with team leader, Charlotte. Charlotte was excellent when advising on recommended treatments for all three of us, and our needs were carefully assessed beforehand.

Andrew and myself were set up on the couple’s therapy room, and my mum had a room to herself, each of us had our own personal therapist who delivered the expert treatments. The Spa at Silver Bay is an advocate for ELEMIS products. ELEMIS therapists are renowned for harnessing the power of nature and science to perform treatments that genuinely transform your skin and enhance wellbeing. The experience was exceptional, and we were very impressed with the physical and mental improvement after just 1.5-hours of care.

ELEMIS creams and products at Silver Bay

I requested the Swedish back, neck, and shoulder massage (£30, 25 minutes) and the Pro-Radiance Superfood facial (£60, 1 hour). Soothing music and aromatherapy filled the treatment room, and we began with the facial. Rich in superfoods, vitamins and minerals, the Pro-Radiance facial revealed a glow to rival a week in St. Tropez! The massage followed and melted my aches and tensions away. I spend most of my time at a computer, and this has resulted in tension in my neck and shoulders. Charlotte was quick to discover this and worked her magic to erase what felt like a lifetime of tightness. I felt like a floaty, floppy, ball of happiness after my treatments and I can’t thank Charlotte and the team enough for their expertise and warm welcome.

Andrew enjoyed the Men’s High-Performance Skin Energiser facial (£60, 1 hour) and discovered the relaxation and decadence of beauty treatments. Having never experienced this kind of treatment before, he was quietly happy that we were in the couple’s room together, but he was soon to forget I was there as he floated away in a sea of calm. My mum (who has had a lifelong love for beauty treatments) had the Pro-Collagen Quartz Lift Facial and the Full-Body Aromatherapy Massage (£50, 55 minutes). This bespoke treatment harnessed the wellness benefits of aromatherapy as well as tailored concentration on the body’s most needed areas for attention. My mum was elated after both treatments – we all were – as you can see from the cheeky post-treatment selfie below…

Exploring Anglesey

The weekend was a cultural adventure with visits to South Stack RSPB reserve and also chasing the sunset along the coast. We lunched at the Sea Shanty Cafe on Trearddur Bay and travelled up to the surfer town, Rhosneigr, for Anglesey’s most-renowned fish and chips at Scarlett’s Fish and Chip Bar – we weren’t disappointed! Anglesey is an island that holds a special place in the hearts of those who have experienced it. Filled with charm, history and a unique blend of clear, beautiful coast and lush rolling hills and countryside, Anglesey is a UK staycation destination second to none.

Whether you’re a family with young children, a couple looking for a romantic escape, or a group of friends or family, I would wholeheartedly recommend that you explore this retreat on your doorstep. Being just over 2-hours from most hubs in the North West makes Anglesey an easy and quick retreat. If you’re searching for an ideal base, look no further than Silver Bay Holiday Village.

Escape to Silver Bay Holiday Village

All in all, I believe that Silver Bay is the ultimate UK holiday destination – because it’s situated on the glorious Isle of Anglesey, because the activities are plentiful, the facilities are excellent, and you have so much beautiful outdoors to explore. By the end of our stay, we felt revived and happy in the fact that we had an unforgettable experience that we’ll reminisce over for many years to come.

The Silver Bay team are really helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. A special thank you to Leah the manager at The Deck House, Charlotte in the Spa, Heidi and the reception team and park managers Jamie and Chris for the warmest of welcomes.

If you’re searching for a perfect UK family escape, look no further than Silver Bay.

If you’ve been inspired to experience the luxury holiday park lifestyle for yourself, please call Jamie Hughes on 01407 860 111 to arrange your visit.

We strive to give our lodge-owners a truly unique holiday experience here on the Isle of Anglesey. So let’s dive in and explore the secrets of what life at Silver Bay is all about.

1. The Reef Edge Holiday Lodge

Escaping the hustle and bustle of everyday living has never been easier (and essential) than with your own holiday lodge. A spacious open-plan layout, light fixtures, and dreamy full-height panoramic lodge doors all create a relaxing experience.

The Reef Edge Holiday Lodge at Silver Bay

And with a magnificent view of the Snowdonia Mountains and Anglesey, waking up in the morning has never been easier at the Reef Edge Holiday Lodge.

2. Children’s Activities

Keeping the children entertained can sometimes be a difficult task, but that’s where our children’s activities come in! Whether it’s orienteering trips in local woodland or participating in our sandcastle competitions, there’s something to bring all the family together.

Tree planting with the children at Silver Bay Holiday Village

To give you a feel of what adventures we get up to at Silver Bay, here’s an example. We’ve been creating a new orchard area and making raised herb planters with Wonderwoods. Alongside Wonderwoods, our lodge owners have also been planting some new trees with our Groundskeeper Pierce. You can sneak a peek at more of what our lodge owners get up to on our Facebook page.

Owning a holiday home at Silver Bay doesn’t stop with purchasing the property itself. There are an abundance of activities to get involved with that you and your family don’t want to miss out on.

3. Environment

We all love a trip to the beach. The smell of the sea evokes a sense of nostalgia for many of us and what better way to indulge yourself than by having access to your very own award-winning private beach whenever you want?

The award-winning Silver Bay Beach at Silver Bay Holiday Village

The Silver Bay beach has been awarded the Green Coast Award which just goes to show that we know exactly how to treat and preserve our environment.

We’re also delighted to say that recently we’ve been awarded Gold in the David Bellamy Awards. We’ve been awarded this for protecting and enhancing the beautiful natural area of Silver Bay and we couldn’t be happier that our efforts have been noticed. We’re continually inspired by the dreamy area of Silver Bay and, as such, we’ve recently begun work on our very own edible garden containing soft fruits and kitchen herbs. We’re so pleased with the results so far, and supplying our own kitchen with our own home-grown supplies will be a lovely treat.

4. Spa and Leisure Facilities

You’ll be delighted to hear that relaxation is key to the Silver Bay experience, which is exactly why we’ve recently opened our own luxury spa and leisure facilities.

Our lodge owners and Anglesonians adore visiting The Deck House for a relaxing evening and some scrumptious food, so we thought what better to discuss on our latest blog than the inspiration behind our tantalising menu?

Including a look at the brand new autumn/winter menu, and an interview with our head chef, Lee, you’re sure to have a grumbling stomach by the time you’ve finished reading – you’ve been warned!

The Deck House Interior

We’ve only just launched our autumn/winter menu in the restaurant just last week, and just like our summer offerings, you’ll be pleased to know we’ve used a range of tasty local ingredients to create a range of magnificent dishes.

The Deck House Main Menu

All of our meal options are concocted with love for our products, care for our guests and if we don’t mind saying so ourselves, great cookery talent. However, for the purpose of this blog we’re going to focus in on some of the most popular restaurant orders and where these dishes originate from.

Picture of a table with food in The Deck House

Jones of Holyhead 10oz Sirloin Steak

It takes passion, knowledge and experience to serve the juiciest and most succulent steaks, and at the Deck House, we pride ourselves on serving only the best hand cuts which are seasoned and grilled to perfection.

We love to go local with our dishes, and our 10oz sirloin steak is one of those meals that we’re incredibly proud to present to guests. If you’re unfamiliar with the Anglesey area, Holyhead is a large town situated on our island, and Jones of Holyhead is a butchers that is popular with locals and tourists alike.

Jones’ butchers provide customers with only the finest of British meats, and we take pride in the fact we support local businesses with our own restaurant steak offering. Make sure you opt for the Jones of Holyhead Sirloin Steak if you’re after a scrumptious, meaty meal at The Deck House- and we also recommend you choose to have it medium rare, too!

Jones of Bodedern 12oz Gammon Steak

Gammon isn’t just for Christmas. This wonderfully succulent joint of meat makes a great alternative to a roast and is a definite crowd pleaser at the Deck House. The Jones of Bodedern Gammon dish really is a culinary highlight for fans of this hearty dish.

Overseen by the wonderful Jones of Bodedern, this multi-award winning butchers provides some of the best meat on the island. All the meat is homegrown, so you really know that you’re going to enjoy a true slice of Anglesey produce, and once more, we take great pride in supporting local businesses and using their products to bring our guests something spectacular.

Founded in 1915 by Evan Thomas Jones and his wife Ellen, the business has been in the family ever since – providing tasty meats for local Anglesey residents. We know you’ll love their gammon just as much as we do if you order this off the menu!

The Deck House Ice Cream and Sorbets Menu

As well as using local ingredients to create our satisfying main meals, we also take pride in using them to develop taste-bud tingling desserts, too.

A desert at The Deck House.

One of our standout puddings has to be our delectable collection of ice creams and sorbets. These are locally sourced from Mon Ar Lwy, which translates to Taste of Anglesey –  they really are everything that an ice cream lover could ever ask for.

There are so many beautiful flavours to choose from including some more unusual flavours such as lavender, and also apple and passion fruit. These are matched alongside more the classic flavours including vanilla, strawberry and chocolate.

The Taste of Anglesey is popular with Anglesey residents, and their lovely ice creams are all made on their farm. Truly sensational and yummy – what more could you ask for in an ice cream?

The Deck House Pudding Menu

As well as focusing on local ingredients, we like to emulate a gorgeous homemade style when it comes to our cooking. As you can see, our dessert menu benefits from a homemade hot toffee sauce, as well as a soothingly sweet crumble of the day.

We also enjoy going Welsh where we can, and are always honoured to present our guests with our Welsh-themed cheeseboard.

A chocolate and cream desert in The Deck House

Finally, how could we have a blog about our menus without discussing the favourite pudding of our guests – our chocolate brownie? Anyone who visits The Deck House and orders this delight of a pud is sure to want seconds! If you’ve enjoyed one yourself recently, be sure to take a photograph and share them with us on social media. We’d love to hear your feedback.

An Interview With Our Head Chef

Of course, our restaurant food would be nothing without the culinary experts behind it – so how could we discuss the inspiration behind our menu without mentioning head chef, Lee?

We recently tracked him down in the kitchen and asked him a few questions about the inspiration behind the menu. Here’s what he had to say…

Where does the inspiration for your dishes on The Deck House menu come from?

The Deck House winter menu is inspired by all of the amazing choice of local seasonal ingredients on our doorstep! There are lots of fantastic ingredients in season at the moment and I’ve used them to take traditional and hearty dishes that we all grew up with to the next level! I hope that the new menu fulfils that sense of childhood nostalgia!

It’s clear you pride yourself on working with local ingredients in your dishes, tell us why you’re so passionate about sourcing local produce?

I believe that Anglesey has fish and butchery products which are amongst the best in Great Britain, buying local is the only way to truly know that your ingredients are the freshest possible, and for me, the fresher the ingredients the more outstanding the flavour! We have made amazing relationships with our suppliers, all of which pride themselves on the quality of their produce. I like to know exactly where my ingredients are coming from!

What first sparked your interest in food?

My mother. I used to bake a lot with my mum, we started experimenting with different types of bread and cakes, I enjoyed the process so much that I then started to experiment with recipes of my own.

Have you always wanted to be a chef?

I choose to pursue professional cooking from my secondary school years, however I think I became a chef long before that. I was always watching cooking programmes and I was inspired by the fact that I knew, as a chef, I would never truly stop learning! I really enjoyed my catering classes in high school so I ultimately chose to continue my studies through to college.

If you could provide our lovely readers with one top cooking tip, what would it be?

Top tip for curry and spice lovers! Don’t store your herbs and spices above your cooker or high up where they can become humid! Humidity and heat will cause herbs and spices to lose their flavour! Store them in a cool, dry place.

Which of your creations on the menu do you love the most?

I love one pot wonders! So for me, it’s the curries! I love filling the kitchen with the smell of meaty spices! It’s that time of the year now for everyone to start getting out their slow cookers, they’re perfect for winter curries!

Are there any particular dishes that we can expect to see on The Deck House menu in the upcoming months?

I will be introducing my mother’s famous Lob Scouse recipe which is perfect to warm you up as the nights start drawing in!

Silver Bay Holiday Village and You

You don’t need to be a lodge owner to visit The Deck House, we’re open for anyone and everyone who fancies dabbling in our tasty dishes and relaxed atmosphere.

Silver Bay Holiday Village wins GOLD in the David Bellamy Awards 2016! Our lodge owners may have noticed a few changes around our luxury holiday park lately, and that’s because we’ve been striving to be recognised for the prestigious David Bellamy award!

The David Bellamy Awards are offered to holiday parks across the country that protect and enhance their beautiful natural environment – and that’s precisely what we’ve been aiming for here on Anglesey.

We’ve been planting a diverse mix of native trees, hedging, wildflowers and traditional Welsh Fruit Trees around our park.

However, that’s not all. We’ve also created a native wildflower meadow for residents to enjoy, and we’re in the process of setting up a magnificent edible garden containing soft fruit and kitchen herbs. Our main aim, of course, has been to protect and build upon our beautiful natural scenery on the park, and the determination of our team has been rewarded and we couldn’t be happier.

The David Bellamy Awards are judged by a team of local wildlife experts who ensure that holiday parks are meeting the following criteria:

  • “Manage their land as a haven for wildlife

  • Reduce their use of energy, water and other resources

  • Reduce, reuse and recycle the waste they produce

  • Support their local communities.”

Commendations are split into three categories, bronze, silver and gold. We’re humbled to have achieved the most prestigious award ‘Gold’ for our contribution!

David Bellamy Awards have been running throughout the UK since 1997. They are one of the longest running green awards in the country, and we’re honoured to have received such prestigious recognition.

What’s been your favourite new addition to the site? Are you happier with a greener holiday village? Let us know your thoughts on Twitter or Facebook.

Any questions or queries about the award or our holiday park in general? Simply give us a call on 01407 860 860 to speak to reception. Our friendly team will be more than happy to offer any assistance.

You can also download our free eBrochure if you’d like to get right into the heart of our luxury holiday village.

Autumn-Silver-Bay-Holiday-Village-North-Wales-1280x853.jpg

There’s something quite magical and beautiful about this time of year. The sounds, the smells, the long, invigorating walks through fallen leaves and, of course, the colour.

It’s the perfect time to explore the outdoors. Walks on Anglesey are a treat of autumnal colour and the sea is also at its warmest, and if you’re lucky, the Indian summer sunshine will keep you warm during daylight hours.

In our latest blog, we explore the wonders of autumnal nature on Anglesey and have some activity ideas to keep your little ones happy and busy during the October half-term.

Anglesey’s Autumn Wildlife

With the arrival of autumn comes a very special time for one of the local’s favourite animals – the seal! Seal pups are born in autumn, and they will be in various locations across the island. Be sure to keep an eye out for some if you decide to head out on an autumnal coastal walk. We’d love to see some pictures if you manage to snap any!

You’ll also be able to see both Dolphins and Harbour Porpoises if you head on over to the North Coast of the island.

Autumn on Anglesey dolphins

Hedgehogs are another animal who loves to venture out during this spectacular time of year. They’re most often found in the woodlands and avoid very wet areas. If you head to the woods, also be on alert for red squirrels who love frolicking in the crisp leaves during this season. Tip: to catch some red squirrels in action, try the National Trust gardens at Plas Newydd.

In terms of birds, you can expect to find the likes of Great White Egrets, Little Stints, Curlew Sandpipers, Yellow-Browed Warblers, Osprey and Wryneck – which have all been recently spotted on the island. Get out those binoculars and go exploring to see what you can uncover.

Anglesey Autumn Nature

When the leaves turn from a vivid green to vibrant orange, yellows and browns, nature on Anglesey really is spectacular. Hawthorn berries are about, and these make great foods for birds if you want to make sure they get enough to eat now that the weather’s cooling!

Also remember to keep an eye out for the Anglesey plants that we’re famous for including Black Bog-Rush, the Common Reed, Great Fen Sedge and Fen Pondweed.

We love our nature on the island, and we just know you’ll love it too if you visit during the autumn months.

Anglesey Autumn Kids’ Activities

Autumn is a great time to have some fun with the children, and there are some lovely autumn themed activities that you can partake in whilst staying in your lodge at Silver Bay.

Below we’ve gathered a few ideas to leave you feeling inspired – and they’re all easy to do.

Autumn Baking

Autumn baking ideas silver bay

With all the lovely autumnal foods feeding through into our diets, it could be time to partake in some autumn baking! Favourites at this time of year include sticky toffee pudding, gingerbread biscuits and also pumpkin pies and cupcakes. Why not see what recipes you can find online on the BBC Good Food website? They have a great range available, so we’re certain you’ll find something tasty for you and your little ones to create together.

Autumn Walks

There are plenty of wonderful walking areas all around Silver Bay that make for the most wonderful autumnal strolls. If you head out around the site you’ll be able to see some wonderful sights such as the photographs below taken by one of our lovely, talented residents!

Autumn view on Anglesey

Beautiful flowers and sunset on Anglesey

These photos are only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to natural autumn beauty on and around Silver Bay – so we recommend you go and explore yourself. And don’t forget to take your camera!

Autumn Playdough

Did you know that it’s really easy to make your own playdough at home? And now that it’s autumn, why not fill your playdough collection with autumnal colours of orange, golden yellow and soothing browns?

Take a look at this recipe right here on AllRecipes.co.uk. All you need is 250g of flour, 50g of salt, 140ml of water and 1 – 2 tablespoons of cooking oil. Then you can add whatever colours you fancy into the mix for an autumnal playdough extravaganza!

Create Halloween Decorations

Halloween becomes more popular with each passing year – so why not go all out for 2016 and decorate your luxury lodge with some spooktacular decorations?

Whether you encourage your little ones to create Halloween themed pictures or create bunting out of orange card (cut into pumpkin shapes, of course!) and string – it’s incredibly easy to decorate for Halloween.

And don’t forget to pick up some pumpkins for carving. If you worry about your little one’s fingers when it comes to carving, why not get them to draw onto the pumpkins with markers and then cut them out yourself? There’s also a fantastic Silver Bay pumpkin competition running at the Halloween party, so be sure to bring your best carving efforts along for a chance to win.

Anglesey Eggs

This dish is a true Anglesey classic. Made out of eggs, potatoes, leeks, breadcrumbs, cheese and nutmeg, this tasty treat makes for the perfect Anglesey influenced dinner time treat.

Want to make this dish yourself? The nation’s favourite duo of bakers The Hairy Bikers have an Anglesey eggs and bacon recipe on the BBC food website. Why not pop on your chef’s hat and apron and prepare something unique for dinner? We’re sure your loved ones will appreciate it!

Welsh Cakes

A classic all over Wales, Welsh Cakes are also a culinary highlight of Anglesey. This fruity flat bread dates back to the 19th century, and they’re cooked on a griddle like a pancake as opposed to being baked in an oven. They can be served both hot and cold, and if you’re feeling indulgent you can also top them with jam or butter.

Made from flour, sugar, spices, butter, lard, baking powder, currants, eggs and milk, you’ll love this Welsh cake – and it makes for a wonderful snack after a day of fun at Silver Bay!

To find a local eatery that sells Welsh cakes on Anglesey, take a look here.

Anglesey Wine

Did you know we have our very own vineyard on Anglesey? And it’s home to some amazing wines that any wine lover is sure to adore. Anglesey is actually the perfect climate for grape growing, and Wales Online reported that it’s actually proving more fruitful than Bordeaux, France.

Known as the Ty Croes, the Anglesey vineyard stretches across two and a half acres of Anglesey land, and can be found on the southern part of the island.

Starting back in 2003, the vineyard offers tours as well as tasting experiences. To find out more about this lovely attraction and their wines, take a look at their website.

Anglesey Oysters

When you’re an island, you benefit from tasty seafood – and nowhere is this more obvious than with our beautiful Anglesey oysters.

You can indulge in these fishy treats on a wide range of places across the island. The Menai Oysters and Mussels Ltd are a popular place with locals and tourists and have their very own shop – and we also serve them in our recently refurbished Deck House.

Other restaurants on the island that serve up this Anglesey classic are Dylan’s, The Oyster Catcher, The Lobster Pot and many more. You’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to enjoying this dish so be sure to indulge wherever you are!

Halen Môn – Anglesey Sea Salt

The sea doesn’t only provide us with fresh seafood here on Anglesey, it also gives us some wonderful salt, too.

This is cultivated by none other than the Halen Mon Sea Salt company – a favourite with locals and tourists alike. As a family company, there’s an extra level of dedication and care that other salt suppliers simply cannot provide – and it makes for the perfect seasoning option for any dish you’re preparing.

You can visit their online shop to buy some salt or another tasty treat with their ingredients incorporated such as salted chocolate and sea-salted Welsh fudge. Salt is such a versatile ingredient, and Halen Mon are certainly making the most of it!

Anglesey Vinegar

What’s another great accompaniment alongside salt? Well, that’d be vinegar, of course! So in the name of keeping these two ingredients together, we thought we’d discuss Anglesey’s vinegar offering.

Vinegar on the island is sold by Amanda Janes of Anglesey, and the owner of which began by experimenting with turning wine into vinegar whilst working on a vineyard.

Now, Amanda buys the vinegar bases and adds her own unique flavours. She sells 12 stunning vinegar offerings, all flavoured in different ways. Fancy some Raspberry vinegar? Or how about some Minted Cider Vinegar? See the full list here and see if anything takes your fancy!

Anglesey Marshmallows

Image sourced from Bonny Confectionery

We can’t take credit for the creation of marshmallows here on Anglesey, but we do have our very own confectionary company specialising in this squishy treat!

Bonny Confectionery are experts at creating amazing gourmet marshmallows – and they’re gluten-free too!

There are all sorts of items for sale in their online shop including Marshmallow boxes and Marshmallow Melts specifically designed for hot chocolate. Explore everything they have on offer here.

Anglesey Foods and Silver Bay

Anglesey really is an experience for all the senses and it’s hard to find a better place for food lovers. Due to its fertile land, the island makes the most of its climate and luscious environment, such as offering the freshest of fish straight from the sea, seasoned with delicious Halen Môn sea salt extracted  from the crystal clear waters of the Menai Strait.

More and more people are choosing to holiday in the UK instead of jetting off to a foreign destination than ever before.

Ahead of the August bank holiday, it was reported that 5.1 million Britons were going on holiday and that 4.6 million of them were planning a staycation – meaning now could really be the perfect time to become a holiday home owner in the UK.

Need a little more convincing? We’ve listed some of the amazing benefits of owning a home on the British shores below.

1. Lifestyle Choice

If you’d like access to a luxury holiday lifestyle without needing to leave the country, then a holiday home in the UK is the perfect choice.

Relaxing, luxurious and a home away from home, buying property in the UK will ensure you have a lifestyle choice infused with all three of those things.

Why not take a look at our properties right here to see what we mean?

2. The Value of the Pound

It has been no secret since Brexit that the value of the pound has dropped. At the current rate, you can expect to get $1.34 dollars for every £1 and €1.18 euros.

So how do you prevent forking out more money for your holidays than ever before? Well, that would be by staying in the UK.

Having a holiday home in Britain means you don’t have to worry about exchange rates because you know how much it’s going to cost already – and you’ll also know the typical prices of your holiday home’s location.

Is it time you put unpredictable currency rates to bed with a UK holiday home?

3. Close to Home

Ever had a weekend where you wish you could escape? Perhaps work that week has been particularly draining, or maybe you’d like to treat your loved ones to a holiday?

With a UK holiday home you have that freedom.

Holidays at the drop of a hat are an excellent privilege to Silver Bay owners, and it’s one of the main reasons so many choose to buy one of our properties.

Simply hop into your car and head to Anglesey for a wonderful weekend – it really is that easy to get away without leaving the country.

4. Guaranteed Kids Entertainment

One of the hardest part of any holiday for a family is ensuring the kids have access to activities that will keep them occupied.

But owning a holiday home will allow you to cherry pick a fantastic destination where you know you can always rely on someone looking out for your little ones.

Here at Silver Bay, we host an array of exciting activities that your kids will love to be involved with. From baking through to junk modeling, kids discos and much more – there’s something for everyone hosted throughout the school holidays!

5. A place for family and friends to visit

Although subletting is not permitted at Silver Bay, your family and friends will be able to stay at your property.

All you need to do is contact reception and make them aware that someone else will be visiting your holiday home, and from there all your family and friends will have a fantastic holiday home escape in the UK, too.

We’re certain you’ll become more popular than ever with a stunning Silver Bay home under your belt!

6. Nostalgia

When you think back to holidays as a child, what do you see? Holidays in Blackpool, indulging in ice cream on Britain’s beaches? We knew back then that we didn’t need to leave the country to have a holiday, and this still stands true today.

How special would it be to leave your children with the same memories on Silver Bay beach? It’s time to nurture memories that will last a lifetime and create something magical with a UK holiday property.

7. Take your pets on holiday, too!

Who says holidays are just for humans? At Silver Bay we accommodate pets too – just make sure you let us know before you arrive!

Bringing your pets with you means you don’t have to fork out costs for kennels and sitters, and we know that pets are also a key part of any family unit – so why not keep ALL of your loved ones together on your next break and take everyone in your family away?

The aurora lights are one of the most incredible phenomenons we have the opportunity to witness here on Earth – and we’re luckier than most on Anglesey because we have the chance to see these wonderful colours in the sky on our very own doorstep.

Best seen between September and April, the Aurora Lights, also known as the Northern Lights, are a natural light show that awe and inspire like no other – which is why we’ve decided to create a guide dedicated to increasing your chances to seeing this marvel on our island.

And remember, if you catch any pictures over Anglesey on your hunt, be sure to share them with us – we’d love to see!

Step 1 Visit the Website Aurora Watch

You can find anything on the internet these days, including a website detailing exactly when you can expect to find the Northern Lights over the UK.

To increase your chance of seeing the lights, make sure you visit the Aurora Watch website before you head out. It will tell you, via it’s colour coded schedule, whether or not you can expect to see the lights in your area at a particular moment in time. It’s a great starting point before you head out into the night with your camera!

If you’re super interested in seeing the lights, you can also set up email alerts so that you know when the lights are forecast to be strong. It’s a handy website for those in the UK wanting to see this tribute to the magnificence of nature.

Step 2 Make Sure The Weather’s Right

It’s vital to remember during your pursuit hunt for the Northern Lights that although there may be reports of light activity, you need the correct weather to be able to see the show in all its glory.

The most important weather factor to consider is cloud cover. If you hope to catch a glimpse of the lights, a clear night will fast become your best friend.

Make sure to always check the weather forecast before heading out – you don’t want to be disappointed!

Step 3 – Make Sure You’re Looking in the Right Direction

It might not always be 100% obvious where the lights are, so an integral part of aurora discovery hunting is to make certain that you’re looking in the right direction.

With that in mind, the name itself is a big clue with regards to the direction of the lights – they’re not called the Northern Lights for nothing! Take a compass out with you to help you with the direction you’re facing. There’s also a handy little compass on Google Maps at the top of the page on the app if you don’t have a traditional compass to hand.

Step 4 – Stay away from Artificial Light

Picture of the Northern Lights.

Just like the best places to see stars are those away from houses and streetlights, so too is your best chance of seeing the Northern Lights. Head to an area where you know you already have a good view of the stars with a chance to see the lights.

Even if the lights don’t show up, the view of stars that night will also be one to remember.

Step 5 – Wrap Up Warm!

The Northern Lights tend to appear during the colder months of the year, September through to April, so during your hunt be sure that everyone in your party is thoroughly wrapped up. You can also make a night of it by bringing along thermal flasks filled with soothing tea or hot juice for your little ones – it will certainly make the evening a magical one.

Step 6 – Check The Time

If you’re following a recommendation from Aurora Watch, we recommend you stick to the times they recommend. However, if you’re heading out alone and want to make the most of your Northern Lights hunt, the best time to look for them are between 5pm and 2am.

Keep your watch or phone handy with the time, and alongside the right weather conditions, direction and also lack of artificial lights, you’re in good stead to see the amazing Aurora Lights.

Step 7 – Know What You’re Looking For

Northern Lights on Anglesey

Heading out to see the Northern Lights can be an educational trip as well as an inspiring one. If you have little ones with you, why not explain where the lights are coming from?

According to the Northern Light’s Centre, ‘The bright dancing lights of the aurora are actually collisions between electrically charged particles from the sun that enter the earth’s atmosphere.’

Passing this information onto children will help make this trip one about learning, as well as seeing something magnificent in the sky. We’ve also posted pictures throughout this blog to help you identify exactly what the Northern Lights may look like – just remember, they might not be as bright as some of these images.

Make sure you take a good camera if you want to capture your Northern Lights memories – you’ll be glad you did if they make an appearance!
