We are thrilled to announce that we are on the list of the cleanest beaches in North Wales.

Clean Beaches in North Wales

New figures revealed earlier this month found that North Wales has some of the cleanest bathing water in Europe. 34 out of a total of 44 beaches in the area have achieved the EU’s highest water standard, ‘excellent’. We’re thrilled to announce Silver Bay beach is on that list.

The remaining spots received either a ‘good’ or ‘sufficient’ rating for water quality. The figures also show that the amount of ‘excellent’ waters across Wales has gone up from 78 to 83 over the past year.

Excellent bathing water quality is one of the key criteria required for a beach to earn the prestigious Blue Flag status; we are proud to have been awarded a Green Coast Award, part of the Blue Flag awards, earlier this year.

Wales Coast Awards

The Blue Flag is part of the Wales Coast Awards, run by Keep Wales Tidy, which honours the region’s best beaches and marinas. This year, we became the first private business to apply for a coast award on behalf of a beach. We are now the proud owners of the Green Coast Award, which is awarded to beaches that don’t have the infrastructure and management of a traditional seaside resort. The Green Coast Award recognises the hidden gems along our coastline and we are thrilled that Silver Bay has earned that accolade.

To be awarded the Blue Flag status a beach must meet a strict set of criteria. This includes cleanliness, safety and facilities. The award also looks at beaches that meet high environmental standards and tough international bathing water quality standards.

The Blue Flag is important as it helps to set the standard high for beaches, marinas and boat tour operators. It also guarantees that you, as a visitor, have arrived at a quality destination.

Our holiday homes are located within walking distance from Silver Bay beach, perfect for a beach day or a leisurely stroll. The beach is also home to our school holiday activities, such as our sandcastle competition and beach mudder (think Tough Mudder but with sand).

If you’re interested in finding out more about life here at Silver Bay, you can download our brochure for more information.

The Blue Flag Award recognises beaches, marinas and boats for their high environmental and quality standards. The award is internationally recognised and reassures visitors that a beach is safe and clean. There are 7 beaches on Anglesey with a Blue Flag award, keep reading below to see which beaches have been awarded for their excellence. To be awarded the Blue Flag status, beaches, marinas and boats must meet a certain set of criteria, a few examples of criteria include:

Environmental Education

A beach map locating different facilities must be on the beach, along with information on the award itself and details of the water quality. Increasing awareness and care for the local environment is an important aspect of the Blue Flag award and therefore at least five activities that promote this must be carried out, preferably during the Blue Flag season.

Water Quality

The beach must comply with the water quality sampling, no industrial, waste-water or sewage should affect the beach area.

Environmental Management

The beach and surrounding areas must be clean and maintained, waste bins and containers must be available in adequate numbers with facilities for recycling and an adequate number of toilet facilities must be available and kept clean at all times.

Safety and Services

First aid equipment must be available on the beach, including lifeguards if appropriate, along with a supply of water and emergency plans to cope with pollution risks.

Blue Flag Beaches in Anglesey

You might be wondering what the benefits of buying a lodge home are and how it is better than booking a holiday abroad. Well, let us tell you why we think it could be one of the best decisions you ever make.

With the rising costs of holidaying abroad and the uncertainty surrounding Brexit, it’s no surprise that more Britons are expected to holiday in the UK in 2020 – and North Wales is expected to be one of the most popular destinations.

What if you had the option to holiday in the UK, whenever you like? Below we’ll talk about the benefits of buying a lodge home in the UK and buying on Anglesey, in particular. We’ll also give you some pointers on what you need to think about when thinking about buying a holiday home.

What are the benefits of buying a lodge home in the UK?

The value of the pound

buying a lodge home

Back in 2016, we talked about how the value of the pound had dropped since the European Union Membership Referendum result. And this is still the case as we enter 2020; at the moment you can expect to get 1.17 euros or 1.3 US dollars for every 1 pound.

By holidaying in the UK, you don’t have to worry about unpredictable exchange rates and forking out more for your holiday.

It’s close to home

Have you ever had a last minute urge to go away for the weekend or had a particularly difficult week and needed a break? As a holiday home owner in the UK, you now have that freedom.

Fancy a weekend break or a whole week away? Just hop into your car and you can be in your holiday home in no time.

Keep the kids entertained

One of the hardest parts of going on a family holiday is keeping the children entertained. By owning a lodge on a holiday park, you have facilities and entertainment on your doorstep so you never have to worry about that again.

We have a great range of activities available for your little ones so they’ll never be bored again when it comes to the school holidays.

Take your pets on holiday

buying a lodge home

Forget putting your pets in a kennel or hiring a sitter, now you can take the whole family on holiday.

We welcome all pets here at Silver Bay, just make sure to let us know before you arrive.

Why should I consider buying a lodge home on Anglesey?

The beautiful beaches

One of the main attractions for people that visit Anglesey are the beautiful beaches. We have the blue waters and sandy beaches you might expect outside of the UK, but all easily accessible from the rest of the country.

Last year, we put together some of our favourite beaches on Anglesey, including our very own Silver Bay beach.

The amazing food

Anglesey has no shortage of ingredients with many of the restaurants on the island creating delicious dishes using fresh, local produce.

We recently produced a map of the best places to eat on Anglesey based on feedback from our holiday home owners and social media followers.

The local attractions

There’s plenty of things to see and do on Anglesey. Whether you’re looking for something adventurous or a fun family activity, you’ll never be bored.

What do I need to think about when buying a lodge home?

Do your research!

The first step to buying a holiday home is always do your research. We have an online brochure to give you an idea of what life is like here at Silver Bay.

Visit the holiday park in person

Nothing comes close to seeing the real thing and we think our holiday park and lodges look great in the photos, but they look even better in the flesh. Each lodge comes with plenty of space for the whole family and is finished to the highest standard, not to mention the spectacular views.

All of this can only really be appreciated by visiting us in person. You can request a callback to arrange a visit.

Do I have the finances?

You should always try to find a holiday property that’s within your budget. We offer a selection of lodges and caravans, both pre-owned and new, so there’s sure to be something that suits your budget.

You should also remember that holiday parks will often charge site fees, which you should factor in when considering your budget.

Decide how you would like to purchase

Before purchasing your holiday home you should know that brand new caravans come with a licence of 15 years and lodges with a 50 year licence. If you would still like to go ahead, there are a few options available to you.

You can always buy the property outright with cash or you could use a private funding source; for example a remortgage or equity loan.

We’re always happy to discuss the different options with you, request a callback today and a member of our friendly team will be in touch.

The event also welcomes cani-cross runners so you can bring along your four-legged running partner. This event takes place during the Sandman Triathlon weekend, on Saturday 12th September.

As the temperatures drop, it can be hard to keep the whole family occupied, especially during the Christmas holidays. We always make sure to keep the little ones occupied and that won’t stop this year, we’ve put a list together of some of our favourite indoor activities.

Indoor Activities

Have a Beach Day

indoor activities

Just because it’s freezing outside, doesn’t mean you can’t pretend it isn’t! Pretend it’s warm outside, put on your bathing suits, sunglasses and some summer music and have a beach party. We guarantee you’ll forget how cold it is outside.

Have a Movie Marathon

What better way to spend a cold day than snuggled up in front of the TV with your favourite films. You could let each person choose their favourite film or have a theme, but make sure you’ve got lots of snacks on hand so you don’t have to move all day.

Build a Fort

If you have lots of pillows, cushions and blankets in your lodge, you could make a fort inside. Why not have a competition to see who can make the best fort and have a sleepover in the winner. Not only is it a fun activity, it’s a great way to stay warm and cosy during the colder months.

Make Your Own Christmas Decorations

Getting crafty is a great way to pass the time and the little ones will appreciate the Christmas tree so much more if they can see their own creations hanging up as well. Even if Christmas has passed, you could always make some decorations and save them for next Christmas. Got enough tree decorations? Why not make your own wreath? Or paper chains and pom poms are easy to make but do the trick.

Have Breakfast for Dinner

Switching up your daily routine is a great way to get rid of the school holiday boredom and having breakfast for dinner is sure to go down a treat. You could cook up a full English, some pancakes, or just have a bowl of cereal, whatever takes your fancy.

Have a Pyjama Day

Don’t fancy going out in the cold? Why not spend the whole day in your pyjamas! This goes well with some of the other indoor activities ideas; maybe you could build a fort, have a movie marathon and then finish up with breakfast for dinner?

Have an Indoor Picnic

Just because it’s too cold to sit outside, doesn’t mean you can’t still enjoy a picnic. Prepare all your favourite picnic foods, put a blanket on the floor, and have your own indoor picnic. You could even tie this in with the movie marathon and enjoy your favourite films at the same time.

Do Some Baking

Whether you decide to do something simple or go for something more elaborate, baking is a great way to pass the time and spend time together as a family. You could even take it a step further and hold your own bake off competition with judges and prizes for the winners.

Play Board Games

Sometimes you can’t beat a day of playing board games and there are so many to choose from, from the classics to the more out-there options. You could each choose your favourite and take it in turns to play or, if you’re feeling extra creative, why not create your own?

Set up a Scavenger Hunt

Scavenger hunts are a great way to keep the little ones, and the big ones, occupied for hours. Hide a prize somewhere in the lodge and hide different clues to send them on a hunt for it. The prize can be anything you want and you can always make it more interesting for the adults by making it a boozy prize.

Create an Obstacle Course

indoor activities

Not only is this a great way to pass the time, it’s also a great way to get moving (we tend not to move as much at this time of year). The beauty of this activity is that you can use whatever you have to hand to create the course, whether it’s pillows and cushions or boxes and blankets.

Make a Scrapbook

indoor activities

These days, it’s so easy to take a photo on your phone to capture those important memories, but it’s also easy to leave them on your phone and forget about them. Why not print off all your favourite moments from the year (there are loads of great online services for you to easily do this) and create a scrapbook. This is something you can do as a family or by yourself, plus it’ll get your creative juices flowing.

We hope this has given you enough inspiration for indoor activities to do during the winter months. Do you have some ideas of your own? Let us know on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter.

We’re already one week into December and that means Christmas isn’t far away! We’ve got some fantastic parties and activities still to come. Keep reading to find out more about the upcoming Christmas holiday activities at Silver Bay.

Christmas Holiday Activities

christmas holiday activities

Our Family Christmas Party was a great success and we still have some fantastic events coming up for the rest of the month.

Public Santa Event

We’re thrilled to announce that Santa is making another appearance at The Deck House and this time we’re opening it up to the public. Taking place on Sunday 15th December from 2pm to 5pm, each ticket includes a gift from Santa, a meal (hotdog/pizza with chips) and access to our new soft play area.

Santa is a very busy man at this time of year so booking is essential to make sure Santa has enough presents for everyone. Tickets for children are £5 and adults go free, but please make sure to book a ticket via our online booking system so we can keep track of numbers. Tickets are available to purchase until 1pm on Saturday 14th December and bookings are non-refundable.

Our bar and restaurant will be open for food and drink and all the money raised from the event will be donated to Fundraising to buy Defibrillators for Anglesey Schools. Fundraising to buy Defibrillators for Anglesey Schools is a local fundraising group formed by mums. Their aim is to raise money in order to purchase a defibrillator for every school or nursery setting on Anglesey who do not already have one. A defibrillator is a potentially life saving piece of equipment and can increase the chance of survival of sudden cardiac arrest by up to 90% if treatment is provided within one minute. Having a unit on site makes our schools and nurseries a safer place, not only for the children, their teachers, assistants, and other school staff, but also for parents and grandparents dropping and collecting their children.

New Year’s Eve Party

You’re invited to welcome in 2020 with friends and family at The Deck House, starting at 5pm on Thursday 31st December. We’ll have live music from Uptown Beat followed by a disco until 1am. We’ll be serving the children’s buffet on arrival and serving food for the adults later in the evening. Adult tickets are £27.50, child tickets are £12 and infants go free. Tickets can be purchased on our online booking system and are available until Sunday 15th December.

Busy Bayer Activities

We have some fantastic Christmas holiday activities to keep your Busy Bayers occupied between Christmas and New Year. On Saturday 28th December we’ll be getting ready for next year by creating 2020 calendars at 10:30am and 1pm. At 3pm the popular Lego Masters is back for ages 5 and above. On Sunday 29th we have two Snow Dough sessions for ages 3 and above at 10:30am and 1pm followed by Sequin Art for ages 8 and above at 3pm. On Monday 30th we’ll be starting the day at 11am with Playdate for ages 3 and under followed by two Winter Crafts sessions at 1pm and 3pm. Finally, on New Year’s Eve we will have two Forest Feast sessions at 10am and 1pm before we kick off our New Year’s Eve Party at 5pm.

Preparing Your Holiday Home for Winter

It’s important to follow the below steps when leaving your holiday home unoccupied over winter. Here are our top tips:

  • Secure all outdoor furniture, including bunkers and sheds, to prevent damage in high winds
  • Ensure you have emptied all fridge/freezers, cupboards and bird feeders of food
  • Stand all seat cushions on end to allow air to circulate
  • Make sure all fixed ventilation is not obstructed and wardrobes and internal doors are left open
  • Check all windows and external doors are tightly closed, including skylights
  • Check you have securely locked your holiday home
  • Lodge owners may wish to leave their boilers on frost stat to prevent frost damage
  • Caravan owners may wish to drain their water system to prevent frost damage to pipes. We offer a drain down service to all caravan owners at Silver Bay so if you require a drain down, please contact Owner Services on 01407 860860 or reception@bulmerleisure.co.uk (this may be compulsory with some insurance policies – make sure to check your caravan insurance requirements). To reconnect your caravan we require at least five days notice so please give us plenty of notice when you wish to return.

We look forward to seeing you all for our Christmas holiday activities and wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! See you in February 2020 when we reopen for the new season.
